Hello. I'm looking to buy a new (to me) Mach 1. But most listings don't show the trim options. I want heated and cooled seats which I understand is in the premium package. Can anyone tell me how to identify the premium package interior from pictures? I've also noticed some cars have Mach 1 on the steering wheel and some have the standard pony. Can someone explain the difference? Thanks!

The pony on the wheel is stock. Some entity is creating some sticker that says Mach 1, I guess because others seem to want to be reminded of what car they’re driving.
If the car has “leather”, ( and I use the term loosely) standard seats with the Gray or Orange stripe below the headrest it’s a premium with H/C seats. With the recaros, they would be leather and not cloth with no heat and cool even with premium.

You're looking for the 700A equipment group to get heated and cooled seats in a Mach 1.

If it’s new-new the window sticker will say premium. From interior images : premium cars have leather, non-premium is cloth. If the car has the optional Recaro seats they loose the heat/cool. Below the radio you can see the seat controls on either side of the HVAC panel…non-premium and Recaro cars will be blank.

Thanks for the replies. Any other advice or things to know or looking at one of these? I imagine people drive these pretty hard before trading them in. Any common engine issues to watch out for?

Some have experienced the “typewriter tic” noise in the motor. I haven’t in over 2 years of ownership. I always use Mobil 1 5w-30w full synthetic for my oil changes.

No mechanical issues whatsoever. Take advantage of the fact that someone traded one in. Just look it over carefully. See if you can get the original owners kit.

Is the handling package noticably different from standard? Too harsh for daily driving?

In doing some research, it seems the Mach 1 steering wheel badge comes with the handling package.

Gosh darn I am still on the fence on these!!

Ford got lazy, Mach 1 should show on steering wheel like the Bullitt does. Fail on their part.

Boomer age Stang owners I've seen tend to buy higher optioned cars/Mach's, & don't always always wear out the loud pedal linkage, just to enjoy them.

Previous owner demographics might be hard to determine.

I haven't needed to do this in a while...
but you can try looking at the date codes on front, vs rear tires. Whether dates seem congruent, or prev owner was hard enough on them to have a age disparity for the miles & orig build date. Its not foolproof, & tire replacement may not show up on a Carfax.

Seems many older owners have other things to drive in unfair weather, & have a garage/storage. Corvette guys are the best I've seen at both garage'n, and havin climate control parking.

Been a few clean, well kept, Mach 1s for sale on this site.
