23 M1, just over 2k miles, oil changed to full synthetic at 1k miles. Sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't. Just wondering out of curiosity if that's what this is or if it's something I should be worried about. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the typewriter tick I just got after my second oil change.
There's a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on this: 23-2052.

Ford says it doesn't hurt anything short or long term. Therefore, they call it an "operating characteristic" and recommend not fixing it, so they never have to worry about it.

Whether it does any harm or not, I'd like to know what causes it.

From my experience with my 2019 GT, Roush SC... I have always used Ford 5w50 synthetic. I changed to Castrol, 5w50 same weight and after it being in the car for 3K-4K miles started hearing the idle tick that I had never heard before. Changed back to the Ford racing oil 5w50 and it went away... Ford oil I think has some additional additives that might not be in other brands.

Yep that’s it the only real sad part about this car sounds like the motors about to fall apart after a fresh oil change. One thing I’ll say is funny it seems to come and go as it pleases some days it’ll be there others motors dead silent. Also on a side note after going to e85 the motor seems to be a lot smoother sounding and tick seems to be less frequent.

I always thought some of the ticking is caused by a loose tube (windshield washer) or wiring cable ‘slapping’ against something caused by the vibrating engine.

My Ecoboost has an annoying ticking sound that I thought was the injectors but ended up being the solenoid on the purge line.

That sounds more like a fuel injection sound then the “Coyote Tick”, I have never had it on any of my Mustangs but have a few friends who have and it was much louder and more pronounced than what yours sounds like. It could be the recording, but to me, certainly sounds like an injector tick.

The tick is not injector tick, its called BBQ tick. There is really not a exact known cause to it, but there are several prevailing theories. Most being oil cavitation or light piston slap. It is not an issue, but it can be annoying. I suggest you search typewriter tick and you'll find the massive thread about it. A bottle of Liqui Moly Ceratec will cure it :like:

Thats it, you can hear it. I run half a bottle of Liquimoly Ceratec and its gone. You don't need the whole bottle.

There is a solution?! That's all it takes?!!

Thank you for your public service announcement. (Any downside to using this?)

For my '21 GT, I find the tick comes on after every full synthetic oil change. It's intermittent but usually goes away after like a few weeks of driving

Ceratec has no downsides to using it. In fact it made my engine better than before with an added 2MPGs. You can get away with only using a half bottle, but following the directions on the bottle, one can treats 6 qts of oil. :like:

Yes, that is most certainly it!!! Just add 2 bottles of Liquid Moly CERATEC and tick is gone.. 1 bottle per 5 quarts of oil is what they (manufacturer suggest). I've had it since 4k miles, when blower was installed and after 1st oil change.........
