Hey guys
First post here
I found a clean 2018 gt350 with 10k miles, single owner. It was manufactured in 3/2018 so I’m assuming it’ll come with a gen 1
I am purchasing from CarMax since I haven’t been able to lock down private party financing through any banks. Has anyone purchased one from CarMax with max care warranty? I know Ford ESP is the recommended route but the vehicle is past the 3/36 so I assume I may not be able to get a plan from Ford
I literally have zero manual transmission experience so I’m really just hopping into this with no regrets and hoping for the best
Any insight is appreciated

The extended warranty is still available through Ford. Your better off buying it after the sale. Not sure what the cost of the carmax warranty is but I have known a gew people that have purchased it and been happy with the service. I’d still with Ford if at all possible though.

Thanks boss, the car is being delivered to me so the terms for the warranty aren’t set in stone
Maxcare is $2200 for 5/120
I don’t plan on driving that much but it’s a nice thought to think I would
I’m just unsure how they are with this specific car because it’s so unique

I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on an extended Ford policy myself. The Ford policy is transferable, is the CarMax policy?
Tell you what, a good friend of mine bought an extended policy from CarMax on a Chevy SUV from CarMax. Has already paid for itself. The SUV went to the local Chevy dealership for the work.

im unsure about the transfer aspect, sorry
However that was one thing that car max informed me of as well “if we can’t fix it, we send it to Ford”
Glad to see it’s the truth but I just worry because the Shelby is so unique as opposed to the daily drivers that most people will probably use the warranty for.

Hey congrats! The GT350 is awesome, you're gonna love it. Get ready to stall a few times while your learn the manual. Since you're getting an '18 you may want to consider the Steeda clutch spring mod (if it doesn't already have it).

By the way, I think (not certain) you can still get the Ford ESP if you're within the 5/60 powertrain warranty period - it depends on the original in-service date not the build date. If you are curious about buying the ESP from Ford you could email Joel Hawley at [email protected]. That's where I bought my ESP. I think there is an extra step or two for a "used" warranty - but considering the cost of replacing a Voodoo out-of-pocket, it's probably worthwhile. Again, Congrats on the new car!

Thank you! I am ecstatic to be a few days away from my dream car
Now I just gotta learn to drive it 😂
Do you have a friend or family member that can help? Look for gray haired folk 😉
Back in ‘74 when I learned to drive, it was on a manual transmission.

Please post an update on what you do. I'm considering extending warranties as well. Just got the Ford Care marketing letter in the mail for my 18 GT purchased in April 19. Decisions, decisions.

I am ready to stall for sure however I feel a level of confidence right now so I’m hoping i just catch on quick so I can really drive her
What does the clutch spring mod help with?
And thanks boss I just reached out to see if I can get some questions answered by Joel. I’d prefer to go through Ford but worst case I’ll run the CarMax warranty and hope for the be

unfortunately I just moved 2,000 miles from a majority of my family and bought a house for my wife and son. I’m far from home at my new home and this car is actually my present to myself for my life accomplishments this last 3-4 years
So it’ll be me, myself and I with some YouTube videos trying to get it down 😅

I’ll keep the thread updated! I’ve been looking at gt350’s since 2018 so I’ll be infatuated with it for quite some time

Find a large open parking lot and practice your 1st gear launch starts.. that will give you a feel for the clutch engagement and throttle. You may want to consider the clutch spring, but I would drive it stock at first and see if you can learn with the stock setup. I have a 2019 which I am not sure if they improved the pedal feel on the clutch but I did not need to put in the steeda spring.
Once you learn the engagement point and throttle moving past 1st gear is a breeze. This is also a high revving engine with a big redline so the need to shift frequently in the beginning will be minimal which helps.
I've drive manual since I was in my early 20's, but when I took mine to the race track it was like I lost all sense of driving stick.. lol.. alot of that had to do with downshift rev matching which is another skill primarily needed for the road course if you are going to track yours. Even if you are not going to be a serious track guy I would encourage you to get yours out on a road course sometime down the road when you are comfortable. It's the only way you can really stretch out this car and get a feel for its full capabilities.

It’s probably the easiest manual I’ve ever driven so don’t be to worried about it. My 14 year old son figured it out in about 5 mins. Also, just because it can rev to 8,200 doesn’t mean you have to do that every gear all the time. Congrats on the new car!

thanks! I’ll probably get this spring then just due to my lack of experience with stick and since I’ll be teaching myself
I’ll do some scouting this weekend for a nice area to practice
I live north of Atlanta and it’s borderline rural, lots of 1 lane highways in either direction
The biggest concern I have at the moment is my ability to downshift when needed. Just hope I don’t fuck uo the car before I really can enjoy it
