Broken engine cover threaded posts.. why?

Yes, do a search, read through all the posts, decide for yourself what is real and what is hysteria.

They must be dumping a lot of EcoBoost also, since nationwide searches of 2018 Mustangs on used car sites turns up about the same if not more 2018 Ecoboosts...about 500 of each on CarGurus. And guess what? Corvettes must have the tick but it's far worse! On CarGurus over 900 used 2018 Corvettes being "dumped" versus about 500 Mustang GT's despite being considerably outsold. Oh wait, it gets better. Over 2000 used 2018 Camaro's for sale despite again being outsold by Mustang. Over 2000 used 2018 Chargers! All these muscle cars must be ticking time bombs!

Ha! One of the best writeups I've seen so far, especially for a completely unrelated thread. 2% of the people make 90% of the noise. Rightfully so, if your tick is real.

Before I bought my Mustang, I test drove a used BMW 340 6MT Xdrive, which was a rare find on a lot. - It had about 12000 miles and their asking price was $12K off a $60K sticker. So, it appears used cars can travel pretty far in the course of being auctioned to dealerships.

So, it would be interesting to see if there's any pattern to all these less than one year old used Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers. Are they all originally titled in the same place? It seems marketing events happen all over the place where people get to have fun with these cars, etc. etc....I remember getting to try out an all-new Corvette at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway many years back. I think they had at least 25 Corvettes at that time...I got invited to a BMW drive for breast cancer a few years ago, where they had several dozen different BMWs, complete with pink ribbon decals, to drive (that wasn't an autocross track event like the Corvette one, though). I have no clue how many of these "traveling marketing events" occur - ie, how many groups with how many stops in any given year, or how many 100s of cars it involves..but I'd always be leary of any low mileage vehicle on a dealer lot when the car was bought at auction vs. coming from the dealers own loaner fleet, AND they weren't providing CPO level extra warranty on it...

That said, OP, if you have CPO warranty, or at least the remainder of 36 month 36K factory warranty, consider the potential of someone previously beating on it a shakedown for factory workmanship problems...if you don't have anything go wrong with it within the warranty period, consider your decision a wise one. For all you know, the engine cover was pulled off for a competitor's marketing event so the Mustang was uglier under the hood and the noise of the dual mode fuel injection system more noticeable, so it scored lower on NVH ratings when being compared to the ringer.

The owner of this car was a local guy - I’ve already researched that. In fact, I can contact him, but that would be creepy. So i just thought I’d come here for some advice on these broken screws. Seems some of the members here are intent on using this minor issue of mine as justification for taking the $6k hit on their new car.

Sorry, I guess I missed that you had proof or evidence of some kind convincing you with 100% confidence it was a local guy who had no problem with taking an even bigger hit than $6K by ridding himself of it so quickly. ...and you must have missed my note that you can feel good about your decision if you don't need to use any of the remaining warranty. This thread is much more interesting than one "easy out" response followed by a bunch of "+1"s and a couple of "what he said" emojis... ;-) Honestly, after writing my post, I remember wondering and still wondering if I should have confronted the BMW dealer and could have gotten another $5K off and a 100,000 mile drive train warranty. That car had the track handling package which included all the bits that made it the best driving F30 generation 3 series. And my Mustang started ticking last week....Waaaaa Waaaaaa......just kidding, but couldn't resist given the Debbie Downer comment...

Not a Ford dealer, but within sight of one. I went down there and asked. A "thorough going over" would be $99. Not sure if OASIS would be included.



Oh yeah. Car does not tick, regardless of cold, after spirited driving, or idling/heat cycling, upper or lower listening.

No problem. Well, even if a Ford vehicle is purchased anywhere, The Owner can bring it to any Ford Dealer if going in for any type of Service appt. and ask the Service Rep if he/she can run an OASIS for you (it’s free), so you can keep that info with your vehicle records. The OASIS shows all Ford Service History, recalls and Warranty repair history, as well as remaining warranty, ESP Warranty coverage, originating selling Dealership and if the car ever went through a Ford Buy Back.

Also, just so you know, I was not implying that YOUR GT was one that had an issue, just saying with the amount of posts about the 2018 Coyote concern in this forum, the point was that you might want to just check the prior Service History. Usually the top covers won’t be damaged like that IF there was no type of human intervention for (insert whatever here)...

But ya know, some of the members (*cough*sdiver68*cough*) like to READ INTO things and post ridiculous responses to make oneself feel like they’re relevant.

Just another speculation regarding removal of the engine cover...
When I removed mine ('18 PP2), I had to remove the strut tower brace, then lift the engine cover off after removing the nuts holding it down.
Maybe the original owner didn't want to take the time (2 minutes) to remove the strut tower brace?
