BMR CB006 brace to help steering stability

I just installed the CB006 last week and can report it does have a very positive impact on the front stability. Driving over the same bumpy road at the same speed, the front end has less horizontal movements.

I am also looking into replacing the front control arms and $120 sounds much reasonable than buying the whole kit. I wonder, how much different it would make in terms of ride quality and front end stability for spirit DD. I always feel the front end is a little harsh and unstable compared to the tightened rear end.

I would not expect it to significantly impact ride quality at all. Could actually improve. If it's on the PP car it made a difference. Ford's engineers undergo intense scrutiny for things like this from the program/finance.

I would assume so too. It's an OEM part after all, therefore the NVH was still a large engineering factor even if it's a more performance oriented part.

Wouldn't you want to change out both the forward and rear arms? Aren't both upgrades to the base GT arms? This thread really caught my eye b/c I'm going to swap out 90% of my rear suspension, but other than a K-brace, don't have anything planned for the front (aside from springs/struts).

The only thing the forward arms get you are the air deflectors. Otherwise it's the same as you have.

This is what I've been talking about - the horizontal moves in the front. Glad to hear your experience. I am gonna get the CB006 and the control arms. If I get headers later it'll have to be something other than Kooks.

Once again, thank you [MENTION=9985]BMR Tech[/MENTION] - you continue to help people make their S550 better. I appreciate that you keep my goals and my car in mind rather than simply trying to sell another part.

Yep, I sure did. Thanks for checking! Even used your links at the top of this thread to search for the cheapest reseller. :cheers: $142.37 shipped to me for both. I already have the Steeda K-Brace waiting to go in...along with alllll the other parts. Soon....soon.

So...getting that front lower arm out requires a ball joint tool. The FP instructions here https://performanceparts.ford.com/download/instructionsheets/FordInstShtM-3075-F.pdf show a very expensive tool, part number 204-592. It's like $300. :eek: Looks like that tool actually pushes the ball joint out from below vs. a utilizing a spreading force like a pickle fork or the tool below would.

Some quick Googling shows a HF cheapie should work but you need to grind out the opening to fit. This one: https://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarter-inch-forged-ball-joint-separator-99849.html

I am not using the old pickle fork and BFH on my precious GT (cue Gollum sound bite). Recommendations?
Get a quote from a mechanic to see what it costs them to install? May end up saving you a bunch of heartburn. Just a thought.

I thought I was confused, so I deleted my post...but now I see I wasn't confused. I got confused about being confused....so sad. But my original question as quoted by Performance Nut still stands. :)

The problem with "going to a mechanic" is that they will use a pickle fork and a 5lb sledge and possibly damage things. The dealer would most probably have the correct tool and I wouldn't get out of there for less than $200....which I could buy the tool for. This looks like one of those specialty tools that there really isn't a substitute for. Been looking at "ball joint separators" and there are just a few different designs. Problem is that the openings on most don't appear big enough to span from the knuckle to the tip of the "stud" on the ball joint in order to push it out.
