BG Syncro Shift II from Optimum Performance

I did the transmission and rear end fluid swap this week. I can definitely feel a difference with the tranny; the irritating whirring noise I was hearing between 1st into 2nd and 2nd into 3rd especially is 80% gone, I'd say. It's much smoother when cold and the whole thing just feels "creamy". That's the best way I can describe it. Definitely worth the money and work.

So I'm finding it a bit notchy again now that we're at 20F in the morning, but I'm pretty sure it'd be worse with the stock fluid. Once it warms up just a little, it's great again! Still happy with it, but thought I'd share.

I've found the same, but definitely better than stock.

Curious if you let the cars warm up and for how long. BG may start out a little thicker in very low temps but it shouldn't take long to get the fluid up to temp once driving. Happy it shifts normal once it gets some temperature in it.

I only let it warm till it drops from ~1500 rpm to 1100 rpm and then start driving relatively conservatively (keep it below 3000 rpm) till the LC (launch control) indicator comes up in the cluster, which indicates that both coolant and oil are up to temp. It's definitely better than stock feeling for the first couple shifts of the morning, but it takes about 20 minutes of driving for the trans fluid to get warm enough that it's buttery smooth. If I do that, go get a coffee or stop somewhere for a little bit, the residual heat in the trans case actually warms the fluid and when I get back in, it's awesomely smooth shifting.

Not really - start up, get my music going on my phone/set up Waze, and drive. I take it easy until the car is warm, though.

At the moment I park the car outside, but this time next year, once it's in a garage, something like that would be nice . To be fair, it'd be quite significantly improved just starting from an attached garage that's at 50ish deg vs. 30 deg.

I thought that's what the built in line lock is for. ;) The only heat source in the trans is internal friction. So make it spin those tires for 5-10 minutes and the trans fluid will be nice and toasty.

I have no "notch". I have a slightly weighted shift knob and MGW shifter, but no notch. Lowest temp I've started in thus far is 38 degrees. I wait at least until the car warms enough to reduce the oil pressure before moving. It has been well documented, elsewhere, that starting in second gear will reduce notch significantly. By the time you get to the stop sign at the end of your street, all should be relatively normal.

It's 2016. You'd think the MT82 wouldn't even be in these cars. But it is... and this is what it does.

I swapped to the BG trans. fluid this week. Shifting effort seems improved. The shifter seems to slide into gears with less effort...especially 5th and 6th gear which used to require a little muscle. Wasn't a dramatic change, but enough to notice the improvement. Seems well worth the $100 investment.
