Hello all, I just installed a gt350/gt500 air box and have the paper element currently. What is a good aftermarket upgrade that flows better and is washable? What is everyone using or what do you recommend?
I do not have a GT but a good quality dry flow is good. This along with grill mods and mods to air box you will get more air and sound. More air than you can use NA
Back in 2014 I had a Mustang GT 5.0 that I tracked. I did my own blower tuning on it, so I did a huge amount of data logging. One of the data logs I did was a comparo of air pressure drop across the air filter. I ran a factory paper filter and then a non-oiled aftermarket filter. The lowest pressure drop, which means the best flow through the filter, was with the factory paper filter. The difference was tiny, but it was a bit of a surprise.
The ONLY reason to use anything other than a plain vanilla factory air filter is for decoration.

I'm using a non-oiled filter, sold as Ford Performance, made by Air Raid. Been using it for a few seasons now. It's a quality item. Washed it a few times, following the instructions below. After washing, it often takes about 24 hours or so to dry out. Given its current condition, I expect the filter to easily outlast any OEM-type paper element several times over.
Ford Performance repackages the Airaid filter. I don't know the micron comparison with the OEM filter but that's where some of the the claimed power gains come from with the Ford Performance filter and aftermarket cold air intake systems, it's all in the lower restriction filter.
