In the name of "climate change" car ownership will be frowned upon. Once driverless cars are capable to operate.
You will have an app, to summon your transportation to desired location. Then use your app to return.
You could be right, but using rented or borrowed transportation means that the vehicles have to travel more distance. So it actually uses more energy. If you own your own vehicle, then it sits and waits all day while you are at work. Same thing when you are sleeping. A rental vehicle will spend some of its time driving around getting to your location every time you use it, which is additional energy/pollution.

I say that you could be right because most of the climate stuff doesn't really make sense anyway. Edit: you do save the construction cost of private vehicles, which would probably be a net savings especially if no one owned any personal vehicles. Depends on how much capacity is needed for the heavy times. If everyone is traveling at 8 am, you still need vehicles for everyone and you don't save much.

It's definitely a luxury to afford your own vehicle and it gives you a lot of personal freedom.

My brothers company announced today that if any employees buy an EV they will give them $3,500 towards it. They are not even involved in the auto or power industry.

and what was their justification? Where was the chorus of "hey I drive a 39mpg Kia, where's my money"? Seems a lawyer could make management reconsider their position real quick.

Who cares? It's their company. They can incentivize it if they want. They are large enough that there was NO way it wasn't run past legal first. They aren't even endorsing a BRAND they are endorsing a technology.

My Company gives me a discount if I buy Landsend clothing, i doubt someone's going to bitch they only buy Levis.

I hope they installed a huge bank of chargers at work. TBH that's more important than the purchase price anyways.

actually they should install just 2, then take bids on who gets to use the charger. Claw back some of that $3500 giveaway. Even better, just tell the new EV owners that their $3500 goes toward the installation cost of the charging infra and a few months of "complimentary" use.

And they said I would make a lousy lawyer... I excel in creative solutions to give something, then take it back and have them thank me the whole time.

Their building put in a whole bunch of chargers about 5yrs ago. Not enough to serve everyone at once, but enough that they could easily trade off days on who gets one.

one of our salesmen mentioned thinking about buying a Mach E. The VP said that any salesman who gets an EV for their work car is fired. (the salesman have to buy their own car and are compensated for it) We work in the oil industry.

I remember hearing stories that at some of the car mfr plants (gm i think) they had a close parking lot if you had a gm. Next lot was American and way in the back was foreign makes.
