My car won't shift into 6th in sport mode but when I switch it to paddles I can.

I switch the driving mode to sport every time I enter the car. The default mode feels like it neuters the car. Throttle response is terrible and the steering feels much to soft.
How is this done in the base? I've read it can be done in both the throttle and the steering...it just takes more fiddling/scrolling than hitting a switch and done.

Also saw someone makes aftermarket toggles for the base buttons.

Thanks

was under the impression premium gets driving modes since it was called out as a feature on Ford.com for premium but not base. Another big reason to get premium. Usually packages like this are full of fluff and gimmicks but when I read the list I wanted 90% of the items. So it was a no brainer.

That's the impression I got to...initially. But through some reading it seems you can accomplish the same (or very similar) thing by flipping through different settings in the base for throttle and steering.

If that's true, my motivation to hold out for a (used) premium pretty much goes away because I don't need heated mirrors, puddle/ambient lighting, navaigation, etc. Although who can say what deals I find and what I'll end up with.

From another forum... I haven't tried it yet but I will tonight.

"I have a base gt with the performance package as well, if you double tap the traction control button that will take you to sport mode and if you hold the button for more than 5 seconds and release it will say advance trac off, this is our track mode. Just turning the traction control off does not disable the other stability control functions."

and- "Man...is it really hard for people to read their owners manual? Look at pages 144 and 166."

Default at every start-up:
- Traction Control On
- Stability Control On

Single tap: "Traction Control Off"
- Traction Control Off
- Stability Control On

Double Tap: "AdvancTrac Sport Mode"
- Traction Control Reduced
- Stability Control Reduced

Press & Hold: "AdvancTrac Off" (e.g. Track Mode)
- Traction Control Off
- Stability Control Off

AdvancTrac helps to maintain control of your vehicle on slippery surfaces using Traction Control and Stability Control by applying brakes to individual wheels and reducing engine power.

Traction control helps to avoid drive wheel spin and loss of traction.

Stability control helps avoid skids and lateral slides.

On a Base Mustang, this is all completely independent of the steering setting.

So this is all great but driving modes in addition to stability and traction settings have different throttle mappings and those are hugely different. Track mode has traction control off but stability control still on, although with reduced sensitivity.

And, if we start talking auto, sport+ and Track does some additional stuff - I think rev-matching, holds gear longer before shifting and maybe firms up the shifts too?

Hey kz

"Track Mode" (AdvanceTrac Off) on the base GT has stability control completely turned off.

I know - that's why it isn't direct counterpart of Premium track mode (which is the one I was talking about). It just turns off stability control - which on Premium you holding traction control button for 7 secs as well. Track mode on Premium is not equivalent to track mode on Base which seems to be theory in this thread that people are trying to prove really hard. Not even close. Whether that's something somebody needs - their own decision. I drive in Track mode almost exclusively due to throttle mapping and there's still some stability control left which I see no reason to turn off on my way to work...

Fair enough, I didn't realize you were being specific about Premium Track Mode. I don't have Premium so I wouldn't know.

Nevertheless I would be very surprised if the Premium Package doesn't have a setting to completely turn AdvancTrac off as in the Base. Else track days would be painfully expensive and unproductive.

It absolutely does. It's just a not a part of a what you switch to in "Track mode" - that's the difference vs. so called "Track mode" in Base.

I like how all of the base guys were saying that they didn't need the bigger screen but now they're all upgrading to that chinese trash TOMTOP.

Hmm, I guess I got the wrong impression about flipping through a few more buttons equating to the same mode capability as the premium. Now I'm curious what that means for the overall driving experience. While I'd certainly welcome impressions, I think it might be something to test out personally.

Also, you spelled Premium wrong under your avatar.
