Avalanche grey 2016 GR095 is for sale by LRA auto sales. They don’t have it on auto trader or many websites at all. I was looking at it before the GB came up for sale.
LRA puts a serious mark up on their cars. Maybe they count on impulse buyers. They have a nice selection but $$$$

Has anyone added a backup camera to their car? Looking for something that isn't invasive or requires installing a head unit. I've found a couple wireless options but curious if anyone has any recommendations.
Interesting request but then again I admittedly am a Mustang enthusiast from another generation that grew up with many of the 16 delete items that come on these Base R models therefore am quite happy with the way these vehicles were designed and built from the FRAP.

About 6 years ago I had a Base R enthusiast reach out to me with respect to removing the radio delete cover from the dash as he wanted to install a radio and speakers in his Base R.

During our discussions I mentioned to him that he would also have to install speakers in the door panels after which time he was adamant that speakers were already installed in the door panels of his car.

I disagreed with him after which time I had a Ford technician remove the passenger's door panel from one of my Base R models which by the way is very difficult to do to say the least.

If you don't have the right tools and significant knowledge the process of removing a door panel for one of these R models it is quite complicated especially when working around the door membrane.

Long story short there are no speakers behind the speaker covers for anyone that may want to go that route.

Good luck with the installation of your backup camera.

I’m with you, Harry. I started out driving in an era where such a thing (back up camera) did not even exist. Heck, I didn’t have a car with a backup camera until I bought my first S550 in 2020. I still find that I don’t use the backup camera very often in my current S550. Only when I can’t see how close I am to something when my GT350/GT500/Mach 1 “Swing” is blocking my view in the rearview mirror or if I’m parked in between two large vehicles that I can’t see over (which is rare because I back into parking spaces 99% of the time).

They can be useful though and I can see someone wanting one if they’re used to having and using one.

@TDK2015 I think Tony gave you a good option. Check out Crutchfield too, they probably have some good options as well and will have reviews with most of their products.

Back up cameras in street cars save lives of little children. My base R backs out of my driveway regularly.

I back into my garage, but yes they are handy in certain situations. I was just so used to not having one that I just don’t rely on it. The backup sensors on these newer cars are nice too, just letting you know when something is approaching the car from either side or the rear.

Not to get too off topic, but really my biggest fear is these huge trucks and SUV’s that sit so high up. Drivers can’t see a pedestrian walking in front of them in a crosswalk or sidewalk, or sedans/coupes that naturally sit lower to the ground. Something needs to be remedied there, more so than a backup camera IMO.

Anyway, back to Base R’s and their coolness.

I grew up the 90s without backup cameras, but they are useful and I am used to them now. I wanted to do something that didn't require a head unit so I don't risk damaging or losing the radio block off plate, the mirror option is probably the best idea. The block off plate is $1000 on eBay with only one example available.

Totally agree that backup cameras are extremely useful/helpful as I use them each and every day when driving my 2025 Acura MDX and especially enjoy the many different camera locations located on that vehicle.

Having said that, at what point when do we start installing backup cameras in some of our Mustang models that never were available on certain models especially for those Mustangs that are not driven on a regular basis?

With that being the case, I would never consider installing a backup camera in a Mustang such as a 2nd Generation Boss 302/LS model and that would be the case even if it became a daily driver.

As Mark previously mentioned, him and I grew up in a generation whereby backup cameras did not exist let alone other cool aspects with such as AC, radio and sound deadener delete items which were quite common decades ago therefore we can easily live with those items in today's world.

Another 2018 Base R guy chiming in. I bought JR368 springtime of 2025 with about 7k miles on it. This no-option Shadow Black 350R appears all original except for window tinting and is virtually showroom condition. Gen 1 motor with no issues to date. It's been a blast so far!

Hello Jim:

Congratulations on owning one of these very cool Base R models and no question that it looks incredible sitting next to your 2006 Ford GT!

From a production numbers standpoint, you may already know this but in any case there were a total of 21 Base R models built for the 2018 model year with 5 of them being ordered in Shadow Black with 4 of those units coming with no OTT stripes including JR368.

Of those 21 Base R models, 19 units were allocated to the U.S. with 2 examples being sent to Canada.

Keep in mind that of the 21 Base R models assembled for the final production year, the FRAP built 2 pre-production Base R models.

The only 2018 Shadow Black Base R model that came with OTT stripes and was JR157 which is the vehicle that I ordered and requested Lightning Blue OTT stripes and was a Canadian model.

JR157 now belongs to a good friend of mine with that vehicle now residing in the Buffalo, N.Y. area.

Certainly miss JR157 a great deal but am so happy that it is in great hands and happy to hear that you own 1 of the 4 Shadow Black examples that was allocated to America!

It has been thought for quite some time that the total number of Base R models built for the 4-year production run consisted of 135 vehicles with that number including 13 examples being sent to Canada.

Based on my research over the last year or so, I suggest that number should now be changed to 136 Base R models with 123 units being built for the U.S. and 13 units built for Canada.

Keep in mind that of the 123 Base R models built for the U.S. there were a total of 14 pre-production vehicles all of which stayed in America therefore suggest that your vehicle is 1 of 109 regular production Base R models built over the 4-year production run.

If you have any pictures of JR368 please post them along with a picture of your chassis plate.

Good luck going forward with your cool and rare Base R model!

Thanks for the information Harry, and for championing these cars. Here's a few pictures...

Beautiful and JR368 looks to be in outstanding condition much of seeming to be based on the very low miles on the odometer and some terrific previous ownership.

Not sure if you are aware of it but based on my records JR368 was the 2nd last Base R model built (April 18th) of the 136 units assembled over the 4-year production run.

The very last Base R model assembled at the FRAP was built 5 days after your vehicle.
