Just noticed that a 2016 GT350 Base R model will be selling at "No Reserve" at the Mecum Kissimmee, Florida car auction on Thursday, January 9th and it is Lot # T5.

With this Base R model being sold very early on a Thursday morning who knows what kind of money it will bring at that time of the day therefore someone could possibly get a terrific deal on this rare R model.

Looks to be a VIP allocation car and comes with photo documentation of the line build and also looks to come with other important documentation as well with the color looking to be Magnetic Metallic.

For those that are not aware of the Base R models Ford produced this car in very limited numbers with these cars coming with 14 delete items and were built in this fashion based on improving the cars power to weight ratio with my car weighing in at 3620# with just less than a half tank of fuel.

Base R production numbers are as follows with this model being discontinued as of available since May 1st, 2018.

2015 - 6
2016 - 64
2017 - 44
2018 - 21
Total - 135

Based on the above very limited production numbers these cars do not come up for sale very often therefore it will be interesting to see where this car hammers for some lucky individual.

Appreciate your kind comments but after 50+ years of being around Mustang I better have learned a few things and when I do I like to pass along interesting information to the younger generations that will ultimately carry the torch for all things Mustang for many years to come.

Not looking to purchase this car as I have one already but when going over the Mecum Kissimmee docket I noticed this rare R model and thought that it may be of interest to one of our members.

I can honestly say ive learned a ton from you as i have only been in the Mustang family for a year. You provided so much info on the GT500 side and now over here with the 350s.
What do you estimate this base R going for?

Very difficult to say as it all depends on how many interested GT350R enthusiasts/bidders will either be in the room, on the internet or on the telephone that morning and how far they are going to go in order to secure this vehicle therefore it is very difficult to say where this vehicle will hammer.

Whatever the highest bid is I can tell you that this car is going to sell and will go to a new home based on a "No Reserve" consignment and that Mecum has an estimated price for this R model of between $70,000 and 80,000.

How can you tell a car is a "base R" model. Not arguing, just want to learn.

Would a higher hammer amount help keep our cars have higher resale values down the road? Or I guess that would be strictly a total car per option number?

Very interesting it has line pictures and information.

Without having a Window Sticker to confirm a Base R model obviously it comes down to visual confirmation.

From the outside there is only one way to differentiate a Base R from and Electronics Package R and that is the absence of the Navigation Globe on the back end of the roof for a Base R compared to an Electronics Package R.

Heading over to the interior there are numerous easy ways to determine a Base R with the easiest 2 ways is to look for a radio block off plate and the bare trunk area.

Additionally if you remove the speaker covers you will see that these cars do not come with speakers along with floor mats, sound deadener, USB ports, back up cameras. Sync and the list goes on.

I am sure that you get the drift on these cars as these cars are radio, AC delete but many other delete items as well.

Mine is just a regular R, not base, but it was an early R, I bought it from a Ford Exec last summer. I have a 2000 Cobra R and a 1995 Cobra R both with factory radio delete and no rear seats.

Congratulations on owning some very cool Mustangs and obviously you and I have a great deal in common with respect to all things Mustang and in particular these rear seat delete Pony Cars.

What is the chassis number for your early R?

Growing up as a teenager way back in the 1960's the first time that I saw a picture of a 1965 GT350/R I fell in love with Mustang, Shelby and especially 2 seat Mustangs. After that it was my mission to see in person one of these elusive 2 seat cars in person and what an adventure it has been ever since then.

Of course the first 2 seat Mustangs produced were the 1965 model, then the 1966 model (optional) and if memory serves me correctly the next 2 seat Mustang then came out in 1993 as a total of 107 Cobra R's were built that MY.

Then of course onto your 1995 Cobra R and then onto the 300 Cobra R's built in 2000 which you also have in your stable.

The next 2 seat Mustang that was built was a 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca model and was fortunate to have owned 5 of them including chassis number PP0001 which was assembled at the FRAP in October 2010 and also was able to locate PP0002 which was the first 4 seat PP Boss 302 built.

Ford also built a 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca 2 seat model with the next 2 seat Mustang after that being the 2015 Shelby GT350R with Ford continuing on with that trend right through to the 2020 MY.

I would suggest that a 1993 Cobra R would be a terrific addition to your nice collection of 2 seat Mustangs along with a 6th generation Mustang Shelby GT350R Base model but in any event just having the cars that you own already is certainly more than adequate for the majority of us Mustang enthusiasts and congrats on those cars.

It should be noted that over the last 6 model years Ford has produced over 3000 GT350 R models with only 135 of these cars being assembled as Base R's which includes ~10 of these Base R's being pre-production units.

I will have to look at that chassis number, can't remember. It is a magnetic R, which I believe about 50/526 2016 Gt350 R's were thus. My 1995 cobra R is #73/250, the 2000 r is #251/300 if I remember correctly. I have #585 2013 Boss LS, black also. The 1993 R is out of my immediate price range, going for $100k+ recently. I would have to fall into quite the deal to complete the trifecta. Moving my collection over to the R (LS) models has been quite interesting and the base R model GT350 fell completely off my radar. My first car in 1986 and second car were both Fox Body mustangs and have always had a thing for the mustang. Although my daily is a pickup, I try and drive them whenever weather permits.

I have been looking for a nice low mileage 93 Cobra to put into the spot that a 93 would go. Now you have given me something else to look for (Base R Gt350)

Your 2016 Magnetic Electronic Package R is 1 of 53 cars with 8 Base R's produced in that color combination for 2016.

Good luck with locating one of the elusive '93 Cobra R's and if you get serious on purchasing a Base R GT350 just reach out to me and I will keep my eyes and ears open for you.

Gonna be a while for either, I have run out of room and money for the present time. Hoping to build up the coffers enough for a new GT500 in a couple years.
