Driving in S mode doesn't mean you're driving spirited any more than driving a manual means you're racing.

Good news, if you actually read what I wrote I clearly said not driving spiritedly.

That IS the assumption of the shift program. The vehicle will assume that you want more sporty/spirited driving program if you use S mode. That is why it is there, the entire intent of it. From there it will process a complex algorithm based on road speed, throttle position, coolant temps, wheelspin/wheel speed sensor data and... this is important... steering angle. It is then all processed, and the vehicle then decides. On a 90 degree right-hand turn with little throttle input and no real need to select 2nd it probably won't in S mode, more likely will in D. That's the whole point of these programs and different shift algorithms.

LOL. This is getting feisty. My initial (and ongoing) small issue us with the right hand turns. Its also possible that my "personal" issue is compounded by the fact that I have 3.55 gears. 1st gear revs fast. Even when daily driving, right turns need to be shifted into 2nd by 15mph or so. This happens fast even when just going easy on the throttle. I also tried starting in 2nd, but it doesnt allow you to. 1st gear "blinks" at you, preventing 2nd from being initiated. I realize that S mode is for more spirited driving, but it can be used for daily, non-sprited as well.

Yeah, 1st is so steep is why I went with 3.15 rear gears...and it's over before you know it.

Yes, absolutely. It can be used for funeral processions as well. That doesn't mean that is how the engineers developed the algorithm, and it probably does mean you'll get some undesired results.... like for example the reason this thread was started ;)

I'm not saying you should or shouldn't, I'm simply explaining why.
