I posted this in the transmission forum as well, but I was hoping to highlight it a bit and get a quicker response. It's bugging me on this Thanksgiving Day (and a happy one to you!).

I just passed 1,000 miles and so thought I'd give Sports mode a try. While my transmission has been a little harsh in normal mode in downshifts when stopping and also at times around 45MPH, it's not been terrible.

However, in Sports mode, upshifts are brutal. They're harsh and clunky, to the point where the whole car shudders. My wife sitting in the passenger seat just said, "That's not right." I agree with her. The terrible shifts are 1-2, 3-4, 4-5, which is as far as I went before switching back to D.

What's everyone else's experience? I can't imaging this is normal, but then I'd expect to see more issues in Normal mode. The same happens when I keep the transmission in D and use to the switch to turn on Sports+ mode.

Edit: I suppose my specific question is, how harsh is too harsh?

Subscribed, since I felt the same on the first 50-100 miles, now it’s better (at 400 miles), but still a bit harsh and sometimes too much ā€œclutch slipā€ when driving gently.

They should be sharp and crisp. Is this stock or tuned?
Stock. And they're definitely not sharp and crisp, they're harsh and clunky. It's quite jarring and can't possibly be normal.

It's weird because things are okay in Normal mode. I guess it's another thing for the dealer to check when I take it for its first post-break-in oil change.

When it down shifts how high does it rev? I had an issue where mine would rev close to redline when downshifting in Sport Mode.

The only thing I suppose I could add to this is I have a Lund tune and in sport mode when you floor it say on the highway it is hard. I mean so hard sometimes that I get off the accelerator. But in track mode, it is brilliant, which is the one I drive in every day anyway. I’ve stopped using sport mode. Don’t know if this helps or not.

The last guy who posted that had a Lund tune and shifting issues, Lund told him it was a bad trans. He bought a new trans and still the same issues with the trans. So it might be the tune.

Mine is quite a bit harsher/firmer when in sport mode. Sometimes uncomfortably so but i rarely use sport unless I am really giving it the beans, only Normal for every day driving. I did reset my adaptive tables with Forscan about 1000 miles ago (got almost 5000 now) and it did improve it quite a bit.

How about in Sport Mode+? Before switching over to Sport Mode+, make sure you drive the car in normal mode for about 15 minutes. Let the transmission warm-up. See if you notice any difference.

Same thing in Sport+ mode. I'm not 100% sure the car had been driven for a solid 15 minutes prior, we were running errands. So that's something I'll try out.

From what everyone's said, I'd suspect that maybe I'm driving "normally" in Sport mode and the transmission is expecting more spirited driving. It's hard to imagine that what I'm experiencing is normal, but I suppose it's possible. Maybe the shifts are just delayed a fraction and that's why it feels so clunky.

However, I suppose I should just let it go until I hand it over to the dealer for the oil change. Maybe I'll follow through on my decision to have the transmission reset and see if that resolves the issue, once I'm sure there's not low transmission fluid (which I suspect could contribute if true).

I have a 2020 GT and ever since the beginning, the transmission would do some weird things (harsh shifts, delayed shifts, bucking, etc.) until the car was fully warmed up.
Try driving around in normal mode for at least 15 minutes. Then, switch over to Sport Mode+.

I'm wondering if FORD changed the trans programming since 2020?

Mine is pretty rough when in sport mode and driving easy. It's perfect in sport mode when I drive it hard though. Still yours sounds like you should have Ford take a look at it.

That's the word I was looking for: bucking.

Sounds like I need to warm it up to get a good idea of what's going on.

that other post where the transmission was talked about he had FI. I am just exhaust and CAI. I only got the tune to help with the transmission shifting really. And it works like a charm in track mode. Sport mode I’m not a big fan of as it is much harder. It’s weird that track would be better.
