So I just changed out wheels/tires to a 19/11 squared setup on 305/30 PS4S on my R. What class would this put me into? I've not done any other mods other than shifter.

I was able to do an event and Test and tune with the car already and it is definitely a different animal than my 2011 5.0!

Do you guys run in 1st ? The courses I've ran so far are heavy on the sweepers and 2nd feels too slow/not in the power band..

JP,

Did you run a white/blue with MSNE at Meadowlands? If that was you I checked out your times and believe you are definitely under driving the tires. RE71R's will net you about 2 secs so if you use the fastest AS or BS class competitor (or for MSNE B, C) as a benchmark then with the factory MPSS tires you should be running about 2 secs slower than them if you are ringing the most from the tires. If running MPSS tires try 36-37psi front and 35 out back.

Any Meadowlands course is a 2nd gear course. I have only been on one autocross small enough to run 1st gear (Bald Hill on Long Island) and the car was an absolute animal. Remember, every competitor is having the same issue running in 2nd and those cars with no torque (BRZ, etc.) really have to be smooth to be fast.

MPSS's are a terrible autocross tire. 71R's are still the tire to have. Bigger SCCA venues such as Ft Myers Fl, Milwaukee WI, Dallas TX, San Jose CA, Chicago Route 66 IL...they have huge courses that are nearly Lincoln Nationals type. It's 2nd gear all day. Careful in 1st gear. It's super easy to lose it on corner exit.

Thanks! Yes I ran with MSNE last time. Appreciate the advice... Good to know there's definitely a lot more learning to go on this car, trying to explore the limits little by little, event by event. Haven't really played with tire pressure so maybe I'll try that next ...

Ya I hear ya ... I remember when I had the RE-11s on the 2011 it was like night and day, these feel more like a do it all but of course not the best at any tire (in the summer) ... thanks for the advice, thinking about it more 2nd gear makes more sense

To be fair, I bet MPSS's are pretty close to RE11's for autocross. Remember, slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
Ive been told (caveat Im a terrible driver) that in a car that is high HP like the GT350 smooth will be slower. I have had instructors drive my car and they where very violent.

Haha, I think you guys took it a touch too literally but touche.

Let me back up a sec. Watch your instructors and you will see how flowing they are from one transition to the next. Nothing is ever On. Off. On. Off.

Time to take you guys to school. ;) J/k

I'll be recording all my events this year and posting them. Anyone with me for a comparison?

I think you need to be on that fine line to win, pushing it to the edge.
I just finished up the SCCA Pro Solo at the Auto Club Speedway, I was running
it and the NMCA Hotchkis AX, long story short, the cars that were doing both events got put in our own CAM class I finished 3rd in group, had they put me in the correct CAM-C class I would have won the event by .119
at least another R won, oh well next time, I still get 1st place points
On to Crow's Landing April 21-23
