LOLThe amount of misinformation in this thread and the incredulous people posting it is preposterous.
Facts (posted over and over on these forums from reputable sources, including FORD)
-MT82 is a stout unit that can handle BOOST (albeit on an upgraded clutch)
-MT82 in the latest iteration is far superior than the AUTO in terms of reliability and upgradeability.
-Manual transmission is indeed dwindling in numbers, not because it's "old redundant tech" like some of you are saying.
It's actually dwindling due to the same reason the average IQ level is decreasing, less critical thinking and more accepting what is given to you.
-MT82 is rated to higher power/torque levels than the AUTO.
Freeagent, you are absolutely right - it's a matter of preference, however uneducated preference is what causes such situations where the user is completely misinformed of the facts.

I will, you do the same. I won't be upset if you take me on the twisty tracks if you're not upset when I take you at the strip. ;)Freeagent, you are absolutely right - it's a matter of preference, however uneducated preference is what causes such situations where the user is completely misinformed of the facts.

Hey no problem. Just understand at the 1/4 mile track it is often based on consistency and ability to repeat a time again and again race after race, not post a hero number then never be able to repeat that again. There is a reason automatics are what are run in drag racing.Exactly this was my point. My wife can jump in a Automatic Mustang and hit all the numbers from the magazine's all day long.
I prefer having the ability and knowledge to beat those numbers with a manual.

If we're both in the same car, are you confident you're faster than me on the strip?I won't be upset if you take me on the twisty tracks if you're not upset when I take you at the strip. ;)
Only way to find out is if we line 'em up. Palm Springs is a bit far drive for me though. ;)If we're both in the same car, are you confident you're faster than me on the strip?

We can all hang out together, its okay.![]()
Cool stuff. Grumpy was the man too. But if Grumpy lined up with me stock '15 GT 3.55 auto vs. stock '15 3.73 manual, I wouldn't back down. ;)Never said I wasn't consistent [emoji106]
I'll just leave these here...
"William Tyler Jenkins*(December 22, 1930 – March 29, 2012),*nicknamed*"Grumpy" or "The Grump", was an engine builder and*drag racer. Between 1965 and 1975, he won a total of thirteen NHRA events. Most of these wins were won with a four-speed*manual transmission. In 1972 he recorded 250 straight passes without missing a*shift."
Maybe he was just posting hero numbers....
Even with perfect shifting of the manual every time, there are inherent advantages of a modern automatic transmission that simply give them an advantage, especially during the launch, if using sticky tires. It's boring physics stuff having to do with torque multiplication and such, but it's true.Never said I wasn't consistent [emoji106]
At least we get launch control lolEven with perfect shifting of the manual every time, there are inherent advantages of a modern automatic transmission that simply give them an advantage, especially during the launch, if using sticky tires. For us manual drivers, the best insurance is to simply make sure we're packing more horsepower than the auto guy we're lining up against so we can make up the difference on the big end. ;)
Indeed! I'm looking forward to playing around with that feature! At least we get launch control lol

And we auto owners never mod of course. ;) (All in good fun.)For us manual drivers, the best insurance is to simply make sure we're packing more horsepower than the auto guy we're lining up against so we can make up the difference on the big end.
I've had my fun with drag racing. If I do intend to torture my LE I'll be looking more into a track experience. And we auto owners never mod of course. ;) (All in good fun.)
I think it would be fun for a lot of '15 owners to meet up and have a friendly competition at a 1/4 mile track. I make it to a regional event every few years for GTO's and its always a good time to race against each other. As I said before, there is a whole lot more to drag racing than just shifting or letting your car shift for you.
