Anyone's S550 static charged?

So I brought this up as a side topic in another thread and got me thinking to post it as it's own subject. I did a search and didn't find anything under "static", so thought I'd post up.

My car attracts dust fairly fast and static is on my brain.

When I get out of my car after a drive home from work the door handle shocks me when I get out and use it to close the door. Found the below link and looks legit. My climate is dry air almost all the time. Seems I've noticed it doesn't happen when it's been raining, but I have to pay better attention to that. Also, it never happens when i enter the car. Thinking I should get some seat covers. I went so far as to get a polish called Brillianize for it's static reduction properties. I've used it at work for static problems and it worked great (at work). Unfortunately the second day riding in the car and since I've been shocked occasionally.

Anyway wondering if anyone else had something to contribute. Guess I could always get a rod and somehow create some sort of ground for me to touch before I get out of my car, but that's too much work.

might want to switch dryer sheet brands lol ...never had that happen to me on this car ,, might want to check into a antistatic for the seats like a spray of some sort.. or wipe your seats down with a dryer sheet..just throwing it out there. figured cant hurt

I get shocked every damn day. not a clue in hell wheat it could be. started using the plastic portion of the door handle to avoid getting zapped

For the mean time as you are getting out of your mustang grab any metal part on the outside of the car before your a** leaves the seat. proceed to stand up while still holding any metal part of the car (any panel on the outside). once both feet are on the ground and you are out of the seat release and proceed to shut the door. there will not be a shock as you have just dispersed any charge you built.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, I'll give them a try. It's still one of those things I don't expect until just when it happens. I'll have to see if I can remember to try to grab some metal while exiting. Yes I do have cloth seats. Guessing it's a different kind of fabric than the other cars/trucks I've had. I'm 47 and am probably on vehicle #6 or 7 and they've all been cloth seats, I don't recall it happening on any of the others. Fabric spray sounds tempting, what's a good brand? Been thinking of seat covers so that might just be the direction I go. I suppose it's a good thing I'm not the only one, guess I'm not all that special, lol. Anyway thanks for chiming in.

No static shocks with my premium/premier trim leather. However my PP gauges in the dash sure do attract lots of dust. I think it's static related. I can't say I've ever been shocked by my car.
The door handle is made of plastic, yet still shocks you? bit odd.
Maybe you can put your hand on the aluminum dash before exiting the car? that may help?

Speaking of dust, you just made me think of something. When I close my door I have been using that black metal trim just above the handle because I hated fingerprints in the dust on my door handle. I do wash my car most every weekend, but it is a dust magnet as well, of course doesn't help living in the desert.

Haha, first thing I thought of a week or so ago, actually just joking about was attaching a foot of chain to the frame somewhere to drag on the street as I drive. We have static straps where I work that the assembly line workers wear on there shoes also the type that go around their wrists. I don't think I'm quite there yet, but thank you for the suggestion.

This is the biggest reason why I prefer leather seats (or "pleather"). Had this problem with every cloth interior car I ever had. Occasionally, it's possible to get a shock with leather too, but it's much rarer.

The farther apart two materials are on the list the easier they will generate static charge. It could be the combination of the cloth material being say nylon and your clothes being a polyester blend, one is positive and one is negative.

I can't help on the shock, but for the dust - pick up a "California Duster" set. I can de-pollenate my car in under a minute. A small one does wonders for the dust and lint inside car.

I picked up one and it's starting to turn black with dirt after 2-3 uses. Afraid to use it anymore than that. Used it within days of a car wash each time. Luckily we are finally getting rain so there won't be much dirt on the roads for another week or three.
