My 2016 GT is approaching its fifth it service. I had new brake fluid last year but its never had the antifreeze changed. What is the recommendation, should I get it renewed?

For the orange formula I believe it's 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Orange was replaced by "Yellow" (which looks green).

When to change the coolant is always one of those moot points. The coolant can be checked quite easily to check its concentration level and ability not to freeze at sub zero temperatures and, as such, doesn’t need to be changed to protect the engine from the coolant freezing. However, that is not the whole picture as the coolant contains inhibitors to prevent internal corrosion and sludging up of the waterways and radiators.

Modern coolants will provide protection against freezing for many a year and last up to 10 years. The inhibitors will lose their potency well before this time and the susceptibility of the engine to corrosion will depend on the material it’s made from. However this protection will easily last for 5 years.

I change the brake fluid every three years (not two as recommended) and the coolant every six years I.e. coincident with every second brake fluid change. I also back flush the radiator and engine as well just to make sure any loose corrosion is ejected. In an extensive driving and vehicle ownership career I have never had any problems with this routine.

Note : Always, always use the correct antifreeze as specified for the engine and always use deionised water.
