After visiting 2 dealers today (making the last one #3 so far), they finally agreed to what I considered to be an acceptable trade in amount. Of course it took my sales rep no less than 6 or 7 trips and 2 hours to the sales manager to get everything to my liking. Long story short, I'm getting X-plan, all applicable discounts (1.99% over 60 months + 1000 Costco), plus a trade in value which I deem as "fair". They really wanted to get me to sign papers...multiple times, and I kept making my sales rep go back over and over to get it just the way I found agreeable. Either way, I'm about 3-4K under MSRP and saving 4200 over 60 months vs. the "standard" 5.69% interest rate, plus a positive value of about 4700 on my trade. Basically to end all the negotiations I took the deal. Might have been able to get maybe another 1000 or so, but I didn't really want to drive all over the city.

This dealer was pretty shady too as they weren't correct on the pricing a few times. They stated they can't get the X-plan price since they don't have a VIN as I want to order the car with specific options. In place, they used a car with another $400 in options above mine, and will adjust the numbers once they pull X-plan on my order. Is this true they can't get the X-plan price without a VIN?

I guess at this point though all I really need to fight at the time of receipt of order is the document fee (which my sales rep didn't know or couldn't answer if Canada is capped at $100 like the USA or not), plus whether or not PDI is included on the freight/delivery fee? I forgot on that one. Just trying to avoid any after-the-fact cost adders.

Thanks guys!

You can go to the x plan site and build and price your vehicle. Also you can read the program rules, the dealer will have to show you the invoice price as well as the x plan price. X Plan price is pre set by Ford.

I got one ordered at a dealership last week. They told me they will accept x-plan. I tried to get something showing the x-plan price on paper but the sales rep told me that all of it will show up when we do the final sales paperwork. I thought it was kind of weird but it makes me feel a little better that they told you something similar.

I just picked up my GT yesterday and used X-Plan. Landmark Ford in Beaverton, OR was great to work with. I ordered the car before I knew I was eligible for X-Plan through my work. After I found out, I called them and they still accepted X-Plan. As others have said, on the X-Plan website there is a link to build your car and it shows you the X-Plan price.

I went to Carmax to get an offer from them before I went to the dealer to ask them for a trade in offer. The dealer low balled and when I showed them the Carmax offer for 3K more than their offer, they said I should sell it to Carmax. They were polite and honest at least, I think they didn't want to bother selling a Subaru.

Remember to consider the tax discount in the trade-in. It comes off the net price of the car reducing the tax buy that much.

Ie.

Car price 30,000
Subtotal 30,000

tax 5% 1,500 (on 30k)

Total 31,500

trade-in 10,000 (to 3rd party)

Grand Total 21,500

New calculation

Car price 30,000
trade-in 10,000

Subtotal 20,000

tax 5% 1,000 (only on 20k now)

Grand Total 21,000

So the $10k trade-in really became $10,500 because of the tax savings. For me and a single person it was way too much hassle to get to Carmax to sell it after buying the new car (and remember forking out that extra money/full price of the car and getting the trade money back later). Most dealers will negotiate on trade-in but 3k sounds far apart. usually the numbers are much closer.

Subarus really hold their value around here. Figured it'd be the same deal up there in OR! Come sell it down here you won't have any issues

Subaru's hold there value really well here too. I was shocked at how good the offer was from Carmax, basically they offered what I was hoping I could get for it selling myself. I guess my expectations where low, but either way, I was happy taking their money.

Stulaw11, there isn't any sales tax in Oregon, but good advice for other people.

Ah lucky you then. Here its 6% so it made a pretty big difference in the end price.

At which dealer did you buy yours? Sawgrass Ford lowballed my trade by more than 3k, I laughed at them and asked if they are on drugs with their offer. They told me to get an offer from Carmax and bring it to them and they'd match it. What a joke, I told them I am taking it to Carmax and taking my business elsewhere. Delray Ford has been great to deal with and they take X Plan but only if you order a car, not from their inventory, they don't know I have a trade in yet, I may sell it to a friend who agreed to include sales tax difference in the price. Not sure I am comfortable selling to a friend, nothing is wrong with the car and it's in excellent condition but down the road I would feel bad if something goes wrong with it.

Maroone Ford in Ft Lauderdale on X-plan.

No dealership around here is going to sell off the lot on X-plan, they have too few in stock. My dealership only had 6 and only 2 GTs. Most dealrships have half a dozen or less on the lot. Obviously they want to sell the lot cars for the most they can (they're getting MSRP or $500 under at the least all day long right now I was told)

My turn-around was quick though, about 6 weeks from order submitted to delivered.

Trade-in is rough too. Not many people are looking for high dollar 2005-2009 S197s right now. What were you offered for yours out of curiosity as trade and what private? Or bring it to Carmax, that is the best estimated value of the car; it only takes 30 min to do. They will come up with a Carmax estimate (because they sell to/through the same auctions).

Sell it to the friend if they'll do 3k more than trade-in. It's a car they will 100% all eventually have a problem or two; no one can get mad over that. Trade-in you're going to get the lowest value of any method of sale, but least hassle (and you pay less up front on the new car since the trade comes off the final contract). I took $1,000 under what I wanted for my 2009 but it did have a dent or 2 and a spot of 2 of touchup paint; plus it was no hassle done in 30 min and I saved like $500 on tax on the new car which made what they gave me $500 less than what I wanted.

7.63% here! If I move outside of the city which I plan to do eventually it'll be significantly lower

I almost went to Maroone in Margate, that's where I bought mine in 06 but they've gone downhill since and I had an issue with the service department and when I went there to look at the 11 the sales manager and dealer kept calling me by the wrong name after being corrected3 times.
Sawgrass offered me 4-5k for my 06 v6 with Pony Pkg, leather, auto, aluminum dash, etc, 39k miles. KBB and Auto Trader are coming in at 9.5+ k on a trade in and Carmax had the same exact car with 45k miles selling on their lot for 15k. I would sell it to my friend for 10k plus the sales tax I would pay not trading it and selling. KBB comes in at 11k + selling privately.
My friend wouldn't get mad when repairs happen, she knows I baby my car. I would feel bad.
Truthfully, I would be happy getting 9k on a trade.

It is 8.75%-9% here in New Orleans depending on which parish you live in. In other areas of Louisiana it can get as high as 11%! The good news is we have high real estate taxes, terrible schools, and corrupt politicians..... Sigh. This is why we drink....

I'm with Stu, 6% here in Broward. I paid that upfront which was about 2300 bucks (deposit). This is with Pines Ford, had gone to autonation by palmetto and 57th and it was horrible. Literally horrible!

Got c-plan as well, and I am trying to close the sale before the 5th as my EDD is the 9th. Let's see what my sales rep says, he is the sales manager, personally took care of me. Crossing fingers, I figure I show up with a check for the balance they won't have a problem marking it sold.

I would take 9 on a trade. KBB says 9,600 average on trade-in but a range of 8800-9700 too, assuming very good condition.

In reality the dealership is going to offer you 8000-8500 first offer and point out every defect in the paint, interior, etc. The usual dog and pony show. Of course KBB doesnt factor a lot of things like does it need brakes, tires, etc. KBB is way too rough an estimate. I would take it to Carmax and get a free appraisal, they say it takes 30 min.

They will leave about $500 negotiating room, and likely wont go more than that. so if they say $8500 counter at 9500 and reach 9,000. They likely own't stretch more than $500; they know what it's worth right away- its not a Toyota or some other manufacturer trade-in but a Mustang the guy has appraised 500 times.

They figure in the tax difference benefit you are getting on the new car too (prob $400-450) that's why they seem to go bout $1,000 under what they think it's really worth on roughly a $10k car. The tax benefit to you, and then $500 negotiating room usually.

They went $1500 under KBB on mine and we settled at around $750 under KBB; but my tax break was much higher on the new car (higher value trade-in) so I just about broke even really at the end of the day where I wanted to be.

But honestly take the $10k plus tax difference all day if it's an easy cash sale. You'll never see that from the dealership for a 2006 v6.
