I have ordered my GT from a dealership out of state and I am now in the process of figuring out how to get it once it arrives at the dealership. I have priced out some trucking companies to get the car and bring it to me but I am just curious of other methods that could be taken.

My dealer mentioned before the sale that it could be transferred to a local dealer for ~$500. The car is currently "Awaiting Shipment" so i figured if I inquired about utilizing this method it could just be placed on a truck from a different route. I asked him about more details on this process last week and he said he didn't remember mentioning anything of the sort and to transfer to another dealership would "negate" the deal

I am curious if any of you have explored anything along these lines of a dealer transfer or what the stipulations on this process require.

Thank you!

It's too late in the process to have your selling dealer get Ford to "drop ship" your car to another dealer closer to you. That has to be requested at the time of the order and you have to have a local dealer already lined up and willing (a fee of $300-$500 is customary).

At this point, a one-way plane ticket and driving home is likely cheaper than paying a shipping company to transport your car. Most dealers will even pick you up at the airport.

Best advice!

I got a one way ticket to PA and drove my car home to Atlanta. 900 miles and a wonderful trip. My wonderful salesman came and picked me up at the airport as well.

This was the best buying experience of any car I have every bought. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

I have researched the flight and drive to the dealership would be about $220 which would be great. A drive of 600 miles will be an additional $90 in gas not to mention 9 hours of being on the road. My only setback with this method is I will be putting 600 miles on the car right away for a vehicle that is on lease with limited miles. I have received quotes for transportation for ~$400. I think at this point the additional $100 if going to be worth keeping the miles low.

The charge for excess miles is either 15 or 20 cents per mile, depending on the MSRP of your Mustang (if it's over $30K, then it's 20 cents per mile). So, that 600 mile road trip is only $120 in mileage charges, if you can convince yourself that those 600 miles aren't true enjoyment of your new car, and an wonderful part of the buying experience.

So, $220 flight + $90 gas + $120 mileage at lease end = $430. It's pretty much a push versus the $400 or so that it'll cost to ship. And, like Todd mentioned above, it could be the best car buying experience ever.

I bought mine out of state. For $78 I got a Uhaul car carrier and brought it home. If you have a full size pickup and gas money, this works! The mustang balanced really nice on the carrier.

I'd fly and get it just to look it over and make sure its right before signing anything. Otherwise you're buying it sight unseen and if something isn't right the thought of the back and forth between a shipping company and a dealer makes my head hurt!
