wrong on the torque. If you look up what a standard nut torque is for a 14mm bolt, its 148ft lbs. the bigger the bolt, the higher the torque to get the correct clamping force. These cars use unusually large studs and so the torque required is surprisingly large too.

its not a lawyers game and its certainly not a layman’s guessing game. Will the fall off at 140? Probably not, but 120 is quite low for this application and 100 might well come off while your driving
Some people say they run fine at 100. Any wheel lug nut will hold fine if tightly bolted. But would I trust it going 60mph+? No

I made this swap early on as well. Gorilla Lugs paired with a Monster locking Lug.

I had a Ford dealer, when asked to rotate the tires along with an oil change, told me they couldn't rotate the tires because the lug nuts were "worn out," and it was going to cost $140 to replace them. I was wondering how stupid they thought I was. I told them no thanks and had them finish the oil change. I had never heard of such a thing before. Needless to say, when I got home I took a look at the lug nuts on my car. They "looked" ok but out of curiosity, I pulled the lug wrench out of the trunk and tried to remove one of the nuts. I couldn't get the wrench on the nut, it was so distorted the wrench didn't fit any longer. I was very happy I wasn't on the side of the road with a flat tire trying to deal with this. Ultimately, I discovered the Gorilla lug nuts and did a full replacement. It was a struggle getting the old nuts off the car as all of them were screwed up. I had to use an oversize socket to get them off and then put the socket in a vise and use a punch to get the nut out of the socket after the fact. Ultimately, I'm glad I got it done but I must say I'm very disappointed that Ford would choose to put such shoddy parts on the car. They may save a few bucks building the car but they certainly screw the customer down the road.

I also went with black Gorilla lugnuts, 4 standard/1 locking, from CJ Pony Parts. I initially considered buying them just for looks, to match my black rims, but then definitely wanted them when I learned that the standard lugnuts had a deformable metal shell on them, which gave me problems when I had that type on a previous car years ago.

Also, they have a set of black ones for $20 ish. What makes the Gorilla ones worth 6x the price??
Tonight I put on the American Muscle black lug nuts with the black McGard wheel locks. I have the black accent package wheels on my 21 GT white convertible.
Impressions:
1. The OEM lug nuts came off way too easy...I did not check the torque setting but it clearly was way less than 100 lbs, not the 150 that was supposed to come from the factory. So my advice is if you have the OEM lug nuts, check the torque setting asap.

2. The acorn on the bottom of the American Muscle (AM) lug nuts is smaller than the OEM. They seem to fit inside the wheel lug housing a bit better than the OEM.

3. The glossy finish on the AM lug nuts can easily chip...I did all mine by hand and even put masking tape inside the 13/16" socket to minimize damage...didn't help much, still got some chips. Guess you get what you pay for.

4. Torqued all to 150 LBS with no issue (except aforementioned chips)

5. Really think the black lug nuts look better with the black accent wheels as it was the only chrome on the car and to me looked out of place.

This is what I have. Anyone have experience with them? Will they have the same issues as the stock ones?

I received my set from CJ today. I am very disappointed to see that the design appears to be the same two piece rolled cap as the shiny chrome appearing ones on my Bullitt. However using a magnet, the black caps are steel while the chrome caps are stainless and not magnetic. By description, I really thought these black lug nuts were solid one piece. May return them....Part Number M-1012K-MB.

Update: decided to put on the black gorilla lug nuts and I can say without hesitation they are a lot meatier than the American Muscle ones. I feel way more confident with the Gorilla and worth the price.

Mustang GT Manual 2017 - now sold ☹
did mine tonight with gorilla nuts, silver to keep the OEM look. Had to buy a torque wrench to get the correct settings(30yrs owning cars never needed one for wheels!) Knackered after tightening that lot up

Anyone use the black gorilla lugs long term? Will they be able to handle switching wheels twice a year for seasons without chipping? How do they handle northern salty winters?
