Quick update: I put some dynamat around the body surrounding the shifter on the interior of the car. Also, I ordered a MGW sound pad they send with their shifter. George from MGW was awesome about letting me order that part individually. Those two together seemed to have deadened some of the noise.

I added a Borla touring catback today and that covered up some of the noises as well.

In the next few days, i am going to install the steeda trans bushing to see if I can firm up my shift without adding any NVH.

If all goes well, I may try the steeda shifter mount again to see what is is like after my recent mods.

All-in-all I think I am pretty close to getting this where I want it.

At the end of the day, I will likely get an MGW shifter. Before I do, I would really like to touch one installed. Anyone in VA, MD, NC, or DE with an MGW on a 15?

I feel strongly that most if not all the m82 trans problems stem from the stock shifter ..The steeda rear bracket and white line bushing helped but is still lacking ..I have power shifted at the track from 2 gear right to 5th .. Sometimes I hit a no mans land between 3rd and 5th .. I ordered a MGW race spec shifter , I feel it being completely attached to the trans is the best way to go ..

One thing I have also done is upgraded the clutch to a Exedy mach 500 clutch and their light weight flywheel .. I also added at the same time a steeda braided steel line .. Now I have great clutch feel that the factory clutch didn't have .. I have also lost the thud that I had with the stock clutch and line .. So I guess it possible the stock line or clutch had something to do with the Thud ..

The clutch did add some gear rattle at idle with the clutch out .. It goes away when you push the clutch in or are driving the car .. Exedy did say it would cause a bit more Cabin noise because of a more solid clutch disc hub than the weaker factory unit .. It's not bad and I can live with it ..

Now I'm just waiting for my MGW shifter to show up .. When I install the new shifter I'm going to add a bit more padding to the trans hump ..The car is also my DD so less sound is better .. I feel strongly that with the clutch up grade plus the steeda clutch line and MGW shifter the M82 will hold up just fine ..Hey I could be wrong , but speed shifting this car with the stock shifter is a game of guess a gear ..If the stock shifter is not letting you go in the right place the trans has to suffer in some way ..I'm also going to add the BG trans fluid just as a precaution.. I will leave the white line trans bushing in place but will have no need for the steeda rear shifter bracket ..

Sounds like your path is working as well. Good to hear. It sure is a shame we have to cobble together a solution to fix a lacking shifter trans setup.

I am thinking I will put the clutch line upgrade on the list. Can't be too hard...is it? Probably just messy?

I am not going to change clutch or flywheel unless it wears out. I will not be doing any power mods outside of an intake and tune.

Keep us posted on the MGW and good luck!

The clutch line is easy to install ... You will lose fluid when you remove the line and yes it's a bit messy ... Just make sure you clean it off any painted parts ... The next step is bleeding the system once the new in is in place ..You have to pump the peddle 100 times or more to bleed all the air out of the system ..Then drive the car for a time to get any left over air out off the system .. Took me about two days of town driving to get it all out .. You will know when you got it all out .. The factory line has a very bad bottle neck that the fluid has to flow though.. The steeda line has no bottle neck and the clutch responds much faster ..Some say this is why when speed shifting you get locked out of gear .. Think of it this way ... You pushed the clutch in but the slave cylinder has not got the call yet , at the same time you are pushing or pulling on the shifter for the next gear ... Will we all know if the clutch is not fully disengaged there is no way it's going into gear.. It may grind or it may just lock you out .. :frusty:

I installed the Steeda trans mount bushing and it helps with the shifting. Not as much as the shifter bushing does though.

Folks here will laugh at me but I swear it added a bit of exhaust noise to the cabin of the car. I know it does not make sense. Might have something to do with the Borla I installed yesterday

I am going to try the shifter bushing again today and see what my experience is like with the new exhaust and the trans bushing in. I can always swap it out again.

Keep you posted.

Steeda shifter bracket installed. Shifter feels good. Noise in cabin is about the same as it was after exhaust and trans bushing install. I am going to keep this setup for a while and see how I like it.

My thought is the trans being mounted to the body in a more ridged fashion could increase noise - why exhaust? I am not sure, but it is there. I am both surprised and disappointed. I have read some reviews stating increase in noise and vibration. I had hopes my experience would be such as yours.

I noticed it as soon as I put it in gear and backed out of my garage.

Perhaps I can return it.
I had the exact same experience with the steeds mount and now it's sitting in my closet collecting dust. I was very surprised with increase in sound and it was just too much after a week of driving in stop and go traffic.
Throw them up in the for sale section. I'm sure that someone will want them.

I just installed the whiteline trans bushing on Monday, and I'm getting a weird cabin vibration too. It's under acceleration...not sure if it's picking up driveshaft movement or what, but i can feel it in the floor and the seat...not in the shifter. It does feel superb with the steeda mount though.
