What are they charging you for labor?

A local Ford Dealership in Florida charges 9.95 for an oil change (can bring your own filter/oil).
Have to look at the receipt. Will get back with that information.

My guess is they either spilled oil filling it or when then changed the filter they made a mess. When I change mine, I placed plastic all around the filter area and did it cold. I also loosened the filter then slid a plastic bag over it to catch the mess.
A few rags in the oil filter area won't hurt. I didn't spill a drop.
Your are probably right. After hearing of others changing oil and their similar issues concerning oil spillage, it is residue, well oil spoilage, dropped all over the efing place. We are making our way to Michigan from Virgnia this Thursday for my wife's graduation at Central Michigan in Mount Pleasnt or something like that. Heck what do I know, I just am driving the Shelby there:) I hope it dissipates and does not make for a burnt smell drive all the way.

Every make, model, sub model, trim, and otherwise of every car ever made has had a motor let go. It happens. Let's not get too off the wire yet. So contrary to this incident, Lethal's 350 survived 950 crank horsepower. Yes it was on a dyno but do we honestly think that's just a walk in the park?
In my C5 Z06, with factory go fast parts, lost three engines. First one, Napier ring issues caused too much blow by, second, shot a rod through the oil pan, third, happened at a dealer getting tired swapped (legal case). All of this happened in Germany and when I was heavily involved in racing, had Katech racing engine parts in the first engine, GM hot cam in the second, Lingenfelter blower Cam in third, oh, a magnason blower too. Anyway, I felt as if the engines could not handle my excessive high speed sprints on the autobahn, they could, but not repeatedly, or the many times I spend at the track, if I never messed with the engines, the second and third, they probably would have lasted.

I am sure I would live at redline at the track and on the autobahn with this engine:ford:

You are right though, don't get too far into the weeds yet. Too early to tell. In my explanation of the C5 Z06, it was an 2001, which later had a recall for the piston ring blow by issue. See what you get when you are first to get a big boy toy.

I like to disassemble things.
He told me to drive it on the lift... Asked me to watch the whole process... Laid mats over the fender, cloths under the funnel and across the valve cover, checked all fluids and then buttoned everything up as if it was his kid in a new diaper. He then asked me when I was going with racing brake fluid...;)

My Ford mechanic is great!
He's a keeper!

Lol. All the snow is gone, if you have time on your trip it's worth stopping at the Henry ford museum.

Yikes!

On a side note... this thread prompted me to go check my oil level. Oh crap!! It was below the min on the dip stick. Almost a quart low? Total miles 2900. First changed at 1000 miles.

Thanks for making known that the engine is using oil. On the old cars we checked the oil every time we gassed up. It was not uncommon to need oil every time. On these new cars I have gotten out of the habit of checking the oil between oil changes.
