I've posted around and over the few years I have owned my GT, but want to get more eyeballs on it in case anyone else has experienced this sound. I have had a hard time getting a dealer to acknowledge it, but am going to continue trying.

This happens when the motor is warmed up. There is a super loud scratching/scraping/metal-on-metal type of noise coming from the drivers-side block area of the engine.

Probably an exhaust leak if it sounds like salsa shakers, it's pretty common.

I have heard of this. Is it something with the flex joint? My gut is leaning this way because under aggressive driving conditions (not just WOT) my entire cabin fills with the smell of exhaust way more than I think it should. Gotta open both windows to air it out.

I definitely won't just take their word for it – but the dealer had it for a whole day and claimed to never find a leak.

Just got some new race ramps so once it gets a little warmer I will pull her up on the ramps and try to identify a leak.

I have virtually the identical noise in my 16 GT PP. I only hear it on the first start of the day. I usually start the car, let it " warm up " for 3 to 5 minutes before driving. Somewhere in the 3 to 5 minutes of idle time the noise starts. After a short drive of a mile or so the noise is gone and doesn't return for the rest of the day. If I don't let the car warm up, I never hear it.

I had my dealer diagnosis, after 3 days of inspection, it as a faulty clutch/tob/slave. They replace the entire assembly which seemed to resolve the issue for a week. After that the noise has returned but is not as repeatable as before.

I haven't had it back to the dealer yet ( that was probably 4 months ago) but I plan to take it in again.

Please post your results when you get an answer or more information.

It is not normal to smell exhaust gas in the cabin while driving with the windows up; you have an exhaust leak.

Dude... that is definitely the SAME NOISE! Metallic scraping.

It definitely takes a while and the engine needs to be completely warm. I would say 11 minutes is about right. I turned the car on, poured coffee, let the dog out to piss, brushed my teeth etc... and then by the time I came outside it was making this sound. Oil pressure was down around 20psi so I know it was nice and warm at that point.

Yup, seems to be the same. This is the first time I actually set a timer. I want to resolve this problem before I mod further however I have heard the flex pipe to be a culprit and since the new clutch didn't solve it, I'm wondering even more. I kinda wonder what would happen if I add long tubes and eliminate the flex pipe.....

I have this same noise as well. After some warm up but goes away after 15 minutes or so. I haven't had mine looked at but I too was suspicious of it being the clutch/flywheel rubbing as it sounds to be on a rotating sequence...

Hope you guys can narrow down the cause. Unfortunately I'm overseas and the local Ford dealer hasn't sold nor worked on any Mustangs so I do all the work myself.

If it's the throw out bearing when the car starts making the noise push the clutch pedal in a little,if it goes away it's the tob,if not probably something else.

Sounds like one of the catalytic converters is shot. Had a similar sound years ago with my 2011 Ranger and it was the cat. Should be covered under warranty.

LOL I have the same exact noise, about 3-5 min after warm-up. Once I drive it, it doesn't return again. Mine goes away with the clutch pedal pushed down or gets queiter, 50/50 there.

Same noise...thought it was just one of the engine quirks since it doesn't seem to cause a CEL or anything. I also have a slight engine rattle when it real cold about 2500rpm till the engine is completely warm.

Mine does this under certain conditions. Usually when warm (driven s few miles) but not 100% up to temp. Does not do it when stone cold or fully hot.

I always thought it was the passenger side cat converter or flex pipe since it seemed to come from that general area. However I got rid of both with an aftermarket set of headers and it still makes the same noise.
