5 star crash test rating without a failure to deploy. who knows what the story here is - i did not see any crash damage so, it is impossible to determine if he had a bad unit or is just trying to get some attention.
The guy sounds like a tool who doesn't know a bat sh*t. We don't know the full story, but it does indeed look like a faulty airbag.
Questions: Was the driver knee airbag deployed? I'm assuming it had to be a frontal crash with a passenger for the airbag to even do that. Shocked to see the frontal SRS didn't deploy with it.
Owner sounds like a condescending dick. I woulnd't want to deal with him either if I worked at a dealership.
Sh*t happens and things don't always work as planned. Looks like the bag got stuck? was anyone hurt? If not get it fixed/replaced and move on. Why harass people trying to do their jobs?
If the car was in an accident or hit something, then it is NOT covered by warranty. If it half-deployed without hitting anything then its covered by warranty. I'm pretty sure the dealership guy can tell it there are marks on the front that it hit something and then said its not covered by warranty. Airbags don't just deploy, and if this one did then they will fix it under warranty. But being a dick no wonder people refuse to help the guy.
1) If a customer brought this issue to my dealership I would direct them to my Collision Department, not the service drive.
2) If there was an issue with the airbag and my Collision Manager didn't have a answer (doubtful) he would call in our local Ford Motor Company representative to inspect the airbag.
3) In general terms, Airbags will not always deploy in any accident. The airbag sensors calculate the degree of impact and deem whether to deploy and/or at what size and speed. Example: The passenger side airbags will not deploy if the sensors to not sense a person in that seat. Also if a child weighing less than < 60lbs is in the front passenger seat the airbag will NOT deploy.
Doesn't look deployed. Looks more like it has half way separated from one corner of the glove box structure.
The drivers airbag didn't deploy so why would this.
He wants Ford to replace it even though he was in an accident, come on. If this is a defect Ford needs to be made aware though. Probably better ways to go about this than trying multiple dealers.
As an engineer, I would say that without proper data no conclusion can be made. This is just some guy complaining. Maybe the dude was prying at it so he could make a video. We do not know what happened to the car, how it was abused, etc. Totally useless in my view.
