I bought the GT350 style shift knob for my S550.

What's a good way to time it so that the shift knob will be aligned properly and still screwed down as far as possible (without obstructing the reverse lockout)?

For now, I put a couple nylon washers on top of the shifter handle and shaved one of them down so that it's tight at the appropriate height.

It seems to work well, but I figured I'd ask before I loctite'd it.

Plenty of videos on utoob.
-Remove knob
-Wind nut down (if used)
-Put lever in reverse
-Put new ball on
-Turn down until it hits nut or lockout
-back off enough to align
-Remove ball and use a little loc-tite on threads.
-Wind new ball down to align
-Confirm reverse lockout is functional
-Line up pattern
-Let it sit overnite while you crack a few beers to celebrate
-Cheers!

It should come with a lockout nut. I used the nut and some blue locktite (takes 24 hours to cure). I just put it in reverse to make sure it engages before applying loctite.

I used to use blue loctite as suggested because red would be next to impossible to remove.
I’ve done a couple modifications and installs for friends where I used orange and it has the holding capability of red with the removability of blue and they’ve had no issues.
would advise a leather strap wrench to remove as to not damage the knob If you ever need to remove it.

Blue loctite and you'll be all set. Give 24 hours for it to dry before driving.
