The firing order in the Coyote is different than all previous Ford V8 engines, instead going all the way back to the Ford flathead engine. That coupled with the 11:1 compression ratio has completely changed how the engine sounds.
The rear exhaust routing is now also different than the current car because of the IRS.

I will be very curious to hear this in person, as I also have been wondering about the video sounds that are out there currently. I definitely am a fan of a deeper tone.

That coupled with the 11:1 compression ratio has completely changed how the engine sounds. The Coyote has a bad tendency to rasp which people incorrectly blame on 'X' pipes but is actually caused by the lack of catalytic converters and/or straight through mufflers. Keeping the classic rumble is very difficult. My setup took nearly 3 years to perfect. I'd post video but I'm on my phone.
I would have never guessed on the change in firing order, thanks for the heads up!

w/o a doubt in my mind the best sounding exhaust for these dohc motors including the shelby's is the FULL stainless works pack....headers -> x pipe -> axlebacks...sounds like a frigging nuclear bomb siren at wot when u hear it in person
I had the SW headerback on my 2011 for awhile and it sounded amazing, but far the best I heard.

Although, we proved on the dyno it is very restrictive, and the turbos did not like the catback (high backpressure). Once switched to magnaflows the high backpressure went away.

Despite how much I love the Coyote, this sound is why I kinda wish we had at least 351 instead of the 302. The exhaust note of large displacement motors is just intoxicating. Anyone know how to get the 5.0 to sound like that? Because I'm pretty sure the only mod I'm going to do anytime soon on my Mustang will be exhaust, not that it sounds bad at all, I just love the sound of a big motor.

sounds fine here.

Oh yea they totally added this feature for intended use on the drag stip  and not hooliganism lol I'm pretty sure that is just their excuse and it is for the latter reason. As I'm sure every mustang owner has participated in some hooliganism at some point ^_^

and racing won't? of the two only one has a physical record of it happening. Unless of course ya do it in public and you get a ticket, then both do.

Also, this feature is a type of hooliganism btw. So, using such feature could void your warranty.

I'm not an audio expert, but my intuition leads me to believe that if you require a large speaker to produce low frequency sound of any significance, then you probably need a microphone with a relatively large diaphragm to pick up the lower frequencies. Or at least something tuned for that range. I'm guessing that the microphones on a camcorder or smart phone are intended for higher frequencies and therefore make the car sound a bit weak. I bet the actual car will sound pretty good. Ford seems to do a very good job on the mustang exhausts. Aftermarket may still be an improvement of course, but I wouldn't get too disappointed yet.

Exactly, and that is why everybody is complaining about the sound on TV of the new formula one cars.

I had a similar exhaust system on my 2002 z28 a few years ago. Headers into true duals with the same chamber mufflers. The sound was absolutely incredible

Bonestock, things have changed. A lot of people complain about bad fitment and poor quality overall. Also just my opinion but they are the worst sounding AM exhausts

Funny, my magnaflow system fit fine and I get nothing but compliments all the time. Quality is great and they still look great since august 11' when I put them on.

And I drive her 365 days a year, rain/snow/whatever, so they aren't safe from the elements.

First, I know very little about cars so forgive me if this question is dumb :p

I am planning on making my first Mustang purchase this year or maybe next and am looking for a certain sound. My father owns a 2013 Roush stage 3 and I realize this will have way more HP than my 2015 GT, but there is a certain sound his makes that I would like to make and I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction.

The sound I am looking for happens in the Roush when you down shift it makes a noise almost like a gun shot. I think it sounds awesome. haha Will the 2015 do this? Also what causes this sound? I think the car is in perfect shape so i'm under the impression its a normal sound? Also is there a aftermarket that is famous for this sound?

That's a backfire from downshifting. You can get that sound from getting an un-catted midpipe and catback easily!

So something like a Bassani offroad X-pipe and Magnaflow catback.

I'm assuming his is the supercharged so there's extra fuel burning up in the exhaust to your 2015GT might not be as pronounced though.

Thanks for the answers :)
Is mixing brands such as you said the Bassani and Magnaflow make installing difficult? Or make larger chance for things to go wrong?

I'm definitely one of those, and I think there is more to it that that.

First, the new F1 engines are much quieter due to lower RPM limits, lower displacement, and turbos that help mask the sound.

Second, the tone is completely different. The old engines screamed as if the universe was being torn open. The new engines just sound a little flatulent. Intellectually I know why they sound different, but that doesn't make me miss the old noise any less.

I do agree that the recording of the new engines could probably be improved through the use of different equipment or maybe simply adjusting the gains, but I do not believe that is the only issue. For example, NASCAR and ALMS (or Tudor or whatever it's called these days) still sound great IMO, and I doubt they are using equipment that is much different than what F1 uses.

I do miss the old engine sounds, but I'm sure that over time I'll forget about it, until I watch a rerun or highlight and it all comes flooding back.

Check out that Stainless Works video that was posted earlier. It has some of that backfiring sound on the overrun. I think that is what you are looking for. I'm sure many of the aftermarket exhausts will do that. Heck, many OEMs are now engineering that sound into the engine management systems (Porsche and Mini for example both do that).
