Aftermarket Exhaust

So, after listening to the latest video of the 50th reveal ([ame]), I'm pretty convinced that I can't live with the stock exhaust. The note during a hard acceleration is just full of tin, to the point that it sounds like a loose/rattling piece of metal under the car.

Between all of the Borlas and Flowmasters and Magnas (etc), any help on which should produce the lowest, most muscle car note? I'm looking for low/chunky grumble at idle, and low and aggressive (but not like Borla Attack aggressive) at takeoff.

I'm off to do some research, but any tips from experienced modders would be super helpful. Thanks!

Sounds like a heat shield rattling on the exhaust to me. Or it might just be the way the mic picked up the sound. I doubt that's what it will sound like in a properly sorted car.

I think that's pretty much the properly sorted car sound. It sounds great at idle, but at rev it sounds like 0:55

Personally I would wait till I heard one in person. I wouldn't take a cell phone camera audio as the perfect audio source. No doubt aftermarket will have some great options but to be "convinced" based on a cell phone vid of a preproduction car might be a bit extreme at this stage.

Exactly. My Mustang sounds like this when recorded with a phone or lousy camera but in person it's incredible.

We know what the Boss 302 sounds like and this is pretty much the same engine with a few tweaks. The Boss 302 sounds like a malevolent wagon straight out of the pits of hell so I think we can all rest comfortably.

'Cept for when ramps or careless dealerships knock side pipes out of alignment; then you get a nasty rasp.

Not true actually ...the boss had quad pipes so that is the main reason it sounds differently. the new mustang wont have the quad pipes so it sounds much much "tinier". It might even have an x pipe instead of an H pipe, but maybe somone can confirm that.

I'm certainly not in a panic or trying to put down the car. I plan on ordering one on day one, assuming the pricing is right. I'm just not in love with the current sound, so I'm looking for some advice on where to get the deeper sound I want. I'll be taking the car home stock and then ordering exhaust, so I'll certainly give it a chance to wow me before I do. There is always a chance I'll love the sound in person...

Here's the deal with me. I am buying the 2015 GT 5.0 Ragtop with the automatic. My 2011 GT is stick and has GT500 mufflers with 50000 miles on the clock. I have had three (3) different exhaust systems on this vehicle. X-Pipe, H-Pipe you name it. The GT 500 Mufflers with the stock H-Pipe is the best sounding exhaust I have had on this vehicle. There is a great rumble at idle and that Burple of exhaust between shifts. So if there is nothing available to cure the 2015 "TINNY" exhaust note this is what I plan to do.
Buy GT 500 Mufflers cut the original mufflers out and weld in the 500's. Like the man said measure twice and cut once. I may be old but I'm not dead and this new car will be right, if I go this far I will also cut off the 500 tips and weld on some really sharp rolled and finished tips.

I'm not an audio expert, but my intuition leads me to believe that if you require a large speaker to produce low frequency sound of any significance, then you probably need a microphone with a relatively large diaphragm to pick up the lower frequencies. Or at least something tuned for that range. I'm guessing that the microphones on a camcorder or smart phone are intended for higher frequencies and therefore make the car sound a bit weak. I bet the actual car will sound pretty good. Ford seems to do a very good job on the mustang exhausts. Aftermarket may still be an improvement of course, but I wouldn't get too disappointed yet.

I would think twice before magnaflows guys. Listening to past gen stangs I always thought magnas sounded way worse than flows or borlas. Check out as many sound clips as possible
