I am in the process of wrapping up my OPG install and I have a few pieces of advice.

1. Using a piece of electrical tape as a leash works great to get the opg pickup tube bolt in the hole. I used the tape to get it in the hole then an offset combo wrench to turn it. The 20.00 bucks I spent on the offset combo wrench saved me an hour off pain.
2. Stuff a rag or bag in the oilman to catch any bolts or rings you drop.
3.Have a small extendable magnet handy to get bolts you drop
4. Make sure you put the ring back on the pickup tube. It fell off on my car and I had to go back and reinstall it.
5. If anything feels or looks wrong stop step back and read instructions again.

Just did mine the other day. I broke off the bolt going from oil pan to front cover because I didn't realize torque wrench was set wrong! Good news is timing cover is cheap ish so I'm just going to replace it.

Did you get some what like chain slap on first startup after getting things back together? It was loud enough that I freaked out and turned it right back off. Went back and turned engine over by hand and there was nothing hitting. On the second start up the sound almost instantly stopped and the engine sounded healthy. Im not sure if it was noise from the fact that the oil pump was not full or if there was some chain slap until the tensioners filled with oil?

I'm going with this. This usually happens most times I remove a timing chain tensioner.

It was scary as hell to hear it.

The part I was worried about was the timing. But I followed the ford directions exactly and the motor seems to run just fine with no weird sounds.

If you were off by a tooth or so on the timing chains what would happen? Would it be obvious?

I am getting code p0017. I think I am off a tooth or the vct got damaged.

Lining up that front chain can be tricky due to the angle you view the timing mark on the crank sprocket. This could be your culprit

It's pretty tough to damage the solenoid unless you were extremely careless

Do you know what you to look for in a datalog to validate chain is off by a tooth. How bad will it run being off by a tooth because the car runs fine but idle is slightly irrattic

Pretty certain you'll throw a CEL code if you screwed it up. I'm sure you're good and ready for some boost.

The code validates it. Idle will be off. If you clear it and it comes back you are off. Sounds like you only got one bank wrong
