I looked at the settings in my car, and see I have sync 3, software version 3.4. But, I do not have navigation. I want to add navigation to my car (I prefer not to use through apple carplay, I want nav native in the system).
Question: Do I need a HARDWARE upgrade in order to have navigation? I have done some initial research - the web site Infotainment.com refers to the need for a hardware upgrade to replace the "apim module". ? But before I pop $600 for a new APIM module, I need confirmation.
2016-2023 Ford Mustang Sync 3 GPS Navigation Upgrade (from infotainment.com)
After that hardware upgrade is complete, I imagine I would then need a SOFTWARE update? (I would update through USB method)
Who has been down this road that can help? Thx in advance.

Infotainment here,

We are glad to hear you are considering this kit, this is one of our top sellers.

https://infotainment.com/shop/inter...3-ford-mustang-sync-3-gps-navigation-upgrade/

Many people have transitioned to the Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps functionality through CarPlay and Auto but we have found a great number of our customers prefer the OEM navigation and our hardware swap will introduce that into the vehicle. The OEM Ford part number for the Navigation APIM (MC3T-14G370- ACA, MC3T-14G370-ACE, MB3T-14G370-NCE) and the Non-Navigation APIM (MC3T-14G370-ABA, MC3T-14G370-ABB, MC3T-14G370-ABC, MC3T-14G370-ABD, MB3T-14G370-NBE, MB3T-14G370-NBG) are different so if you are using OEM equipment a hardware swap is required. Please let me know if you have any questions on this.

I don't know nothing about no compass GPS signal, as my car is too old. But if he is going to swap APIMs, he'll be doing about 80% of the Sync3 upgrade stuff. Would be good to know if he can skip the antenna, for sure. Heck, the maps may already be on the APIM...

Ok Vin shows GPS signal. This is built in, you would not need an additional antenna.

NAVIGATION MODULE GPS ANTENNA: ICPAB0 : Module/GPS Antenna

I know you stated you prefer native NAV over Car Play / Android Auto.......but you'd seriously rather spend $600 to get the same feature that you could have for free?? I can guarantee Car Play / Android Auto will work better as well.

There is a reason no one pays for car navigation anymore. Everyone already has the feature in their pocket for free.

I tend to lean more in your camp on this personally. However, if the OEM navigation is a priority or preferance we do buy back the old APIM through our trade-in site

https://trade-in.infotainment.com/products/ford/

and it typically has good value on the resellers market as well (Ebay, Amazon, Marketplace) as this is a popular module PN that would need replacement in certain vehicles. Also keep in mind that this being 100% OEM equipment, this would add value to the vehicle when it comes to resale value. Vehicles with Navigation on average can be listed for a bit more. A lot of the cost on this can be offset in the long run.

I asked about native navigation within Sync 3, not anything else. If I needed advice, I would have asked for it. I didn't. Reply to the specific issue at hand, or better yet, do not reply at all. I am a grown man, 67 years old, multiple cars, multiple mustangs, and classic cars. I don't need unsolicited advice. I am backing out of this group. Adios.

You asked a question on a public forum about technology that has been made obsolete for quite some time now to which I offered a zero-cost solution......you're welcome.
