Added a sub and amp to Shaker system (pics)

Had this setup laying around from my Fusion. Decided to put it in the Stang on this snow day off work. I have the 9 speaker Shaker system. It leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. Even the Sony system in the '10 Fusion and '11 Edge sounded better/louder.

I added this 12" Alpine Type-R and it livened things up nicely. I tapped directly into the right rear speaker using wire taps from radio shack. This way the factory harness and wiring was not disturbed. I didn't have to take the rear deck apart either to gain any access. I used the AudioControl LC2i to convert the speaker signal. It also has built in remote on for the amp.

I also decided to run the power wire directly off the battery so it will be hidden out of sight by the cover. Located the ground to the bolt in the center of the rear seat that goes into the body.

Next thing I may do is replace the front stage speakers with some sensitive, quality speakers. Something that will be powered fairly well with the stock amp. Thinking of the infinity reference series. I dont really want to get I to adding an amp and rewiring all the speakers. But who knows, I am an audiophile. Lol

Don't get me wrong, I agree. I only did it like that because the install was unplanned due to the snow day off work and I don't have access to any wiring diagrams at the moment. I am not even sure that the diagrams are available on alldata just yet.

I just wanted to get everything installed and test it. Then I will hard wire it in when I have the correct information.

And I use the line converter because I don't plan on spending thousands on audio equipment and dealing with the navi/sync/steering controls. This was simply stuff I had laying around that didn't cost me any additional money. But thanks for the heads up. ;) I assure you will not find in short cuts in my home theater setup.

Although that is true, it is way more forgiving on low frequencies than it would be on high frequencies.

I get what you did, and why, and think it went well. The audio is a definite let down in this car. I have an 11 Fusion, and like you said, the Sony in there sounds a lot better. I do have one comment on your install though, get a grommet around that power wire where it goes into the fender before you have a really bad time with a short and possibly with a fire.

Hey TonyN, how has the bass response been for you, having tapped into the rear? A few people have had issues with peaky responses/roll-off of low frequencies. Noticed anything like that?

Also, I second badass03ragtop's suggestion. Get a grommet in there, or some sort of protective insulation for that power cable. Even in the week I had my power cable there before adding insulation, I could already see signs of wear on the cable from the metal right there.
