all tunes (except possibly the Ford tune) disable the grill shutters (command them 100% open all the time.) As soon as you load the tune the shutters will stay open. The only way to really test this is to have a stock tune or have your tuner put the grill shutter table back to stock.
I ran the stock tune for the first 1200 miles on the car. Cobb stage 1 for another 6k. And have now had Tune + for 16k. Gas mileage has stayed the same across the board.

From what I understand the PCM (engine ECU) uses vehicle speed signal and tenperature (not sure exactly which - possibly coolant temp) to calculate which one of 16 positions the shutters should be in. This signal is then sent to the shutter motor via either CAN, LIN, PWM or even just voltage level - though I suspect LIN.

It's much easier for tuners to disable AGS, and probably the right decision as it will optimise performance, and since the engine calibration has been changed, it's not worth the bother of recalibrating the AGS algorithm to prevent overheating Engine or overworking fan.

There's an article here on efficiency of incoming air but it's all rather technical:

Anyway, kudos to DevilDogDoc for identifying pin3 is potentially 12V feed to shutters :D
