This is good to know, thanks... Any idea what's different in the 50AP cars and verts as these do not have the shutters. I don't see one, even while scanning.

Perhaps someone in this thread knows.....what, exactly, is the intent of having shutters? Aero (better closed?) for gas mileage? I've seen a linkage to weather (or temperature). Open for hot, closed for cool? Can anyone address difference in gas mileage with or without? I have a convertible and if I understand none of the verts have shutters. Mine doesn't. I heard one member say not needed in vert because no one drives a vert in cold(er) weather. Certainly not my situation, year-round DD. Have searched for information about shutter rationale and its been mostly miss. Anyone have a good source of information? Anyone know what cars/packages did/did not get shutters? I was considering installing in my vert (effort to improve DD gas mileage); but a) don't know if it would work with vert, or b) worth the trouble. Thoughts?

I believe the grille shutters are there because of the amount of space between the grille and the rad on cars with the normal EB grille. The 50th grille is like the one on the GT in that it sits back much deeper so there is less open space/drag and I think there is some bracing on the convertible that would be in the way of the shutters

Pretty sure the shutters don't do anything. They are for aero/gas mileage but based on the number of ppl who have removed them and done grille deletes etc they make no difference.

It's only after you remove them when you realize how big clumsy and cumbersome the unit really is.

I removed the whole shutter system yesterday, of course it threw a code. Is there any way to remove the CEL without having to run a tune? I'm getting a tune but not right now, and the car is going in tomorrow to the dealer so they can fix some paint problems. I've cleared the code twice with an OBDII reader but it just comes back. If there's no way to remove the CEL then its okay, not too important just annoying to see.

Automakers get environmental credits too for putting fuel-saving technologies on the vehicles, which count towards the CAFE fleet mileage mandates. Grille shutters is one of them

That 7mm bolt right? Such an unnecessary hassle :frusty:
Taking my bumper off in April to put the grilles in.

Just leave the motor connected and zip tie it out of the way. That way no code.
I did this with my focus st after the ic install.
