Hi all,

New 2019 GT PP1 owner (1700 miles so far) and I have a question for those who have the active exhaust option. Any of you guys drive pretty much all the time with it set to track mode? I do, and I've noticed the inner exhaust tip (the one with the baffle valve) is a lot darker inside than the outer one. The inside of the outer pipe has hardly any exhaust "soot" on it while the inner pipe has plenty, almost as if all the exhaust is coming through just the inner exhaust tip. Just wanted to see if that's common or if I should have the dealer check it for restrictions/malfunctions with the exhaust system.

Thanks in advance.

I just happen to have a close up photo of when my system was stock.

Both of your pipes look cleaner than mine. My inner one is pretty dark with exhaust soot. It looks similar to the exhaust pipes on my Honda which has a race header on it.

The inner pipe is the controlled one so in the "track" setting (control wide open) there should not be much exhaust going through the more restrictive outer pipe.

Btw, I just went out and looked at mine, the valves are in the wide open position. Maybe they park that way so they don't stick shut? I have the system set to always start in "quiet" mode (55+ community) and thought the valves would be closed. It does seem to start a bit loud and quickly quiet down but it is difficult to tell in the garage.

Excuse me, but you live in an “age preferred” community. :like:

Yes, it takes a few seconds to switch to quiet mode as the car cycles through the start-up procedure.

Absolutely correct (on both counts), I switched the Mustang on and saw that the valves had immediately closed.

Really? Mine doesn't. Significant difference between the sound in the morning when "Quiet Start" is active, versus in the afternoon at work in "Normal".

The inner pipes on mine are also darker. I noticed on many C7 corvettes the inner 2 also happen to be darker.

More like 1/4 of 1 second. Mine fires up decently loud but within a fraction of a second it's quiet. Huge difference in quiet mode vs anything else with just an X pipe

With mine, a "cold" quiet startup is anything but quiet. It lasts a few seconds and comes down as the RPM's come down. VERY annoying.

Mine's the same way. I'm sure the neighbors enjoy when it fires up and stays at 1250 RPM. It won't get quiet until it settles down in to 620, a minute or two later. By then, I'm already on my way down the road.

Not so with my GT; I have it set to start quiet from 5 am to 7 am , and it does. As soon as I exit my neighborhood and get on a Main Street I trip the sport+ and rock the 70 miles to work.

I checked and changed my quiet start time to between 6am and 10am, and it's enabled. At 9am this morning, I manually selected quiet exhaust mode (and I heard the valve squeak) with engine stopped, in accessory mode. Then I jabbed the button. The motor roared to life. Two flicks up into mymode (which I have set to quiet) and idle got noticeably quieter. Clearly my quiet start is anything but.

As noted above, mine is quiet from the get-go. However, I drop to quiet mode as I come onto my street to keep peace with the neighbors, so mine shuts down in quiet mode. I wonder if that has an effect.

I do the exact same thing, for the exact same reason.
