Not wanting to derail the other exhaust thread, after reading where the new gt's have 486 hp with the active exhaust.
This got me to wondering where Ford derived it's 480 hp number on my Bullitt.
Has anyone dynoed one and seen the difference in output between say, quiet and track mode?

The extra power likely came from the 87MM GT350 throttle body, cold air intake kit, intake manifold and some additional tweaking of the tune.

I know where the Bullitt got it's extra power, my question was the difference in output between the exhaust modes.

-20HP (we only get 460) if you're in Europe :(

Likely zero difference in HP in quiet vs other modes. With the active exhaust, if in quiet mode the valves will open if the throttle is opened up past a certain point (I don’t recall at what point but I believe there is a thread on it around here somewhere).

I seriously doubt it. If you think about it, a GT with AE is said to make 460 at the crank and the Bullitt with AE is said to make 480. I always thought engines were tested out of the car and the hp rating captured via an engine dyno through open headers, not a full system. If that’s the case, then I don’t see AE having any bearing on the hp numbers.

I would agree with you except for the fact that the new gt's were said to be making 486 hp WITH the AE. Think without is a 6hp loss. That's why I was wondering about different levels of sound and their hp loss or gain.

Not really enough to make a big difference, I know...:)

Hey, every hp gained, no matter how it’s gained is good IMO, because in the end, combined with other mods, they do add up, which is what most of us are looking for.

If ford used the same type of muffler on the non active 650 as what they did on the non active 550, I can understand why it drops a little power.

The 550 active exhaust is straight through once the valve is open, but a 550 non active has this to contend with :

I believe that in some of the euro 550 marketing info, Ford also allude to the exhaust mode affecting performance (I’m pretty sure I’ve posted it before, but can’t find it searching from my phone).
