I'm looking to replace the rear speakers and I'm wondering if it's really necessary to completely remove the side panels to get the rear deck panel out. I appreciate any info or help on this.

I did a complete rear deck speaker upgrade including a DSP and an amp. Yes the side panel removal is necessary to remove the rear deck panel. This guy in the video is a butcher in my estimation. Crutchfield sells adapter plates that work extremely well that will save using bastardized speakers for adapter plates. I still have yet to do a patterned perforation of the rear deck lid to allow more sound to pass thru. i bought the punch tool from Harbor freight. A broken ankle has put a damper on my MODs this fall.

I appreciate the feedback but all I'm concerned about is getting the rear deck out. I have the adapter plates and wiring pigtails.. I don't plan on butchering up the stock speakers or the wiring harness.

I can confirm side panels must be removed.

Not hard to do at all.

I put my speakers in today and I didn't have to remove the side panels. I only had to pop them loose at the top in order to get to the plastic rivets that hold the deck panel. I then work it over the loose side panels and out. No problem at all.
