When I turn on the AC, there is a funky smell for the first few seconds. I have done some research online and many people state to spray some Lysol in the "fresh air" intake in the engine compartment but I really dont know where that is. Can someone tell me exactly where to spray the Lysol?

Usually the reason for the funky smell is that the evaporator drain is restricted or blocked. The drain location is somewhere above the transmission in the transmission tunnel. Make sure its clear and draining. That’s your culprit. The cabin fresh air intake is located behind the battery box. And also you may want to change your cabin air filter too. You can also spray Lysol through the filter housing opening.

I already changed the cabin filter but the smell is still there. I will check the drain tube. I removed the battery cover but I really didnt see any type of inlet behind the battery. What does the opening look like? does it have a grille?

In the photo, it’s the opening on the right. You’ll have to remove, the battery and the battery box to see it. The drain tubes are located on the transmission tunnel, there are two round holes close to the firewall

Also, always utilise the Global Open function of your windows.

Great picture. I appreciate that. I am aware of the Global Open function but how will that fix my AC smell?

May not be applicable but when using AC I turn it off a mile from home and turn off recirculation. This is supposed to slow mold growth in the system. The below links explain better.

There are options to freshen up the duct work with sprays and cleaning. I have used Lysol in other cars spraying an entire can into the air inlets

Your car has been parked in the hot sun for hours outgassing toxic compounds from the interior plastics. Having the windows open for a period before you enter will help vent the cabin.
