So I'm rounding year 3 on my Mustang and for the first time, I'm starting to get a mildew smell out of the AC vents. I've done a couple things like run the heat for a few minutes or just the fan, which helps for a couple days but then the odor comes back. I think this is due to the extraordinarily warm February we had here in the south and the use of AC for a week or so and then back to heat.

I have a can of spray cleaner for AC units that I think will work, but I have no idea where to use it. Where is the condenser unit, and is that the right place to spray? Or should I just spray into the vents themselves?

My 2010 was full of water at what I call the wink valve against firewall. Over times leaves debris clogs it up so check that if the newer cars still have that valve

I have that from time to time and disengage the recirculate button so fresh air comes in.

Have you changed the cabin air filter? Sometimes that helps with the mildew smell.

I always figured that if I kept the cabin filter clean it wouldn’t smell. But I have a brand new one in and it smells bad whenever I turn off the compressor.

remove the cabin air filter and use lysol or a similar product. Make sure the evaporator drain isnt clogged preventing water from running out.
