I'm no expert but I believe that any air or moisture in the system could indeed prevent a charge, even a tiny amount of air/moisture is too much. Not to mention the damage you will cause by running the system this way. Those recharge kits are for systems in good condition. I think since yours has been broken and exposed to atmosphere it now needs a vacuum pull.

Also, are you 100% sure that a low charge is the only problem?
No def not 100% sure - thats what brought me here in the first place - I believe the compressor is shot, I was hoping to run across someone with a similar experience that could say, "yep, same happened to mine, and ETC ETC is what I had to fix"...I dont know the procedure for testing the compressor, if there even is one, but as I mentioned, previously I would see a quick dip in the RPM at idle when I turned the AC on and assumptively the compressor engaged and placed load on the engine...and I'm not seeing that dip now, not in MAX AC, not in MAX DEFROST...so I'm like 80% sure the compressor is the likely suspect....just wanted to feel more confident about throwing a couple hundred at a compressor and a couple hours of my time at it.

When I had my 2003 Cobra I added a Killer Chiller which required vacuuming and then filling the system. I had to do this several times and everytime I did a change to it I had to vacuum it down and then fill off the vacuum. I bought my own Manifold Gauge set and Vacuum pump for this. When my 2017s compressor went out I changed it and the shop used their machine which vacuumed the system down did a check and then filled it. I think its an integral part of any AC System.

As im digging deeper into it, I'm definitley gaining he understanding as to why its required, I initially thought it was more about cleaning the system but am starting to see where it could be essential to the whole process. I appreciate everyones feedback.

I believe the 2015-2017 cars have really quite a long history of AC problems. This is why I felt you should celebrate for making it 7 years. It was common for them to leak and to experience problems with the evaporators and blend doors. On these cars it's also not unheard of for one part to fail and then take the other parts of the system out with it. This is why I recommended the full on by the book pro HVAC/dealer shop route. Again I'm no expert but based on what you've said I would want that entire system fully inspected and repaired or outright replaced.

Because this happened suddenly and you found the broken pipe , I’d lean towards that being the problem rather than something deeper.

A best mate of mine here in Australia does mobile air conditioning , your best bet is to get a mobile guy to come a re-gas yours properly. That’s the only way you won’t be chasing ghosts And it’s cheap , considering they will diagnose any other problems at the same time.
