There are some drivers of manual cars out there that have it down pat and can shift damn near as smoothly as an auto. Here are a couple of examples.
C’mon man. Your talking about the exception not the rule. Those cars (and drivers) are on a completely different level than what we are talking about here.

Haha! Ok, I’ll give you that. I just wanted to show that a manual car can get down through there with crisp shifts. Maybe Panda‘s old video (with it’s stock MT82) would have been more realistic and closely comparable to what the OP is shooting for.

That car is also legendary. Paul Ferdinando took that stock motor/trans combo much further than anyone thought possible but I still think it’s the exception not the norm.

For that car to run mid 9’s required a 150ish trap speed. Do you know how much power is needed to achieve that for a car weighing about 3800 lbs? My guess is it was pushing 900 ++ whp. How long do you think a typical stock motor, MT82 trans and driveline components will last at that HP level?

The same 150 trap speed in an auto car will go 8’s. To go consistent mid 9’s with a stick in a heavy s550 will require big HP, stronger driveline components and weight reduction will help.

If it was me (and I’ve thought about it), I would go boost (any kind), T56 Magnum XL, RXT 1200 clutch, GForce Outlaw half-shafts, Viking coil overs/drag springs, build up the IRS, a Drag Pack, Fuel mods to support E85, get the car as light as a could without gutting it and start saving for a built short block.

Yes, one would certainly be on borrowed time pushing 900+ rwhp. Going fast can be expensive, as well as risky. I’ve lost motors in a couple of my toys over the years and have firsthand knowledge/experience of what that feels like (horrible feeling). Having said that, I always keep coming back for more and hoping things work out to my advantage.
