I'm guessing go with gas with no ethanol to get more milage. As what alot of people state.
Also gas with no Ethanol is healther for our engines, and will get better gas mileage than Petro 94. But Petro 94 will yield more power, but has 10% Ethanol in it. Shell V-Power 91 is Ethanol Free in Ontario.

Thanks Mishimoto. That's really interesting. So based on this, if you never drive your car over 5k, using 93 is wasted money.
If you call getting around +10hp and +10 torque to the wheel up to 5k rpm and a much smoother power delivery compared to 87 as well as a little improvement in fuel effiency a waste for paying only $3 to $4 a fill up a waste then u are correct. But I believe the benefits out way the very minimal cost. If you fill up once a week thats only $150 to $200 a year more in fill up cost which majority of gets negated with the increase in better fuel efficiency and decrease in long term repair bills

Costs between 87 and 93 (if available) fluctuate market to market. It might be $3-$4 for you, it's more like $8-$10 for me.

I'm driving 15 hours each way for the holidays, and going through three tanks of gas in each direction. If I can save $50-$60 at the pump I'll do it (assuming mileage is roughly equitable).

In that case it might be a different but the average driver only fills up once every 10 days or so. After ur trip let us know how the car felt after 15hrs. Very curious about the long trip comfort

Hoping to finally go for a test drive this weekend. For those of you that have already gone through your 87 fuel and are running 93 now, did you notice a big/huge difference in the stock power? I'm hoping I won't be misled by the "lack of power" with the 87 octane fuel during the test drive.
Thanks-- Dave

Ya, good point. I waste more money on coffee that that :)

I don't understand you point on decreasing repair bills. How does higher octane accomplish that??

For one better gas with a higher octane level will assist in keeping carbon build up delayed longer. I have experienced this in the VW world. Do a carbon cleaning on a car using cheap gas and one using quality 93 and you will see a major difference.

I think you are refering to top tier gasoline, not high octane. It has detergents in it to help with carbon build up. Google it.

Here there is a huge difference in price from 78 to 93. 87 is about $2.90 now and 93 is 3.40-3.50. THats over 20% difference. I have been using 93 but will probably mix in 87 sometimes as well, especially if I go on long trips. I do a ton of driving, already have over 2k miles on my car, so it does add up.

^ It's way cheaper down here haha

Here it's only about ~20-30c price difference ($1.99 vs $2.29) so that's roughly 20% but it's worth it IMO lol

you should probably use a website or app like gasbuddy.com to check. places near me range from $3.05 to $3.40. Most places around here just try to take advantage of people's commutes. A little technology can level the playing field.

Wow.

Last time I filled up last weekend, regular was $2.79, and premium was $3.89 (credit card prices, which are $0.20 higher than cash prices on both).

In theory, though I haven't tried, if you have the premium it has the ability to look up gas prices via the Travel Link services via MFT.
