Running an external mic up to the drivers side visor might be possible and an easier access point. However, with window down more noise is induced than from the map light area.

If you're in the headliner crease, nothing is stopping you from sliding it a few more inches over. :headbonk:

If you're on the phone with the window down, that's your own fault anyway.

with my other android head unit i plucked the factory mic from its spot and left it loose in the overhead light housing, put the one for the aftermarket unit in its place. it was literally the easiest part of the whole installation, and probably the easiest thing ive done on the car. Its so easy to run the wire it just tucked in along the a pillar and on top of the headliner.

...on top of the headliner.
So this makes me think it's running across the headliner and not under the headliner? Meaning wire exposed? I'm guessing I'm just reading that wrong.

No by on top of I mean between the headliner and roof, I know what you mean though. It's not exposed.

I just received an update. This is the entire response from them: "We're having issues with the manufacturer, actually. On Monday we'll know if its something we're still going to move forward with."

So, we wait until Monday for a decision.

I actually talked to them just a few minutes ago, and it's looking like a bust. There are apparently some issues the manufacturer refuses to correct, and they don't want to end up in a tumultuous business relationship with a company who will be as difficult as they're being.
It doesn't sound like they're going to look for other options on bringing a different unit to the market either.

Better to find out now then find out after money has been collected and 2 more months gone by. At least they are up front about this.

I'd rather stick with stock than install crap.

Can we please get a good Android head unit, ugh.
