I signed up for an HPDE at Homestead in a few weeks. Then got thinking about engine break in. Any opinions? I am going to control myself but still run the car somewhat hard.

Guess I shoulda proofread the title.

Sounds like a road trip opportunity.

Owners manual says to not do wide open throttle until 500miles and not to track the car until 1K miles. Since you have a few weeks you should be be able to put on an extra 250miles and then go for it at the track.

I think it says not to do extended full throttle. More brief full throttle is fine during break in. They just don't want you to try to hit top speed on day one of ownership. You definitely don't want to baby the car too much during break in.

My bad, I should have said 100 miles on extended full throttle... 1K miles still holds before tracking.

I had 350 miles on mine at the first track event. No problems!
Just do it and have fun.

I autocrossed my car at 200 miles. According to the all knowing internet, my engine should have blown up instantly. I'm at 17,500 miles without a hiccup.

I put 1k miles on my car in like the first 10 days on the street just driving for fun lol.. anyway I would just drive to 1k miles then get an oil change to full synthetic amsoil signature series in whatever weight your manual specifies for track use (5w30 for GT's but I use 0w30), check the oil level then let er rip. I think gt350 take a higher weight oil 5w50 I think. Read the manual though. For track use on the GT's ford wants you to change the diff fluid and trans fluid and stuff after a certain amount of time of the first track driving you do probably similar with the GT350s.
