A friend has a near twin to it (same color and trans), only his is an J code '68. It used to be a strip car back in the '90s prior to him having kids, but hasn't seen daylight in probably 20 years. I need to pester him about resurrecting it.

It was a drag car back in the day for a few years and they didn’t cut the car up. All the parts were saved it’s been in storage it’s whole life and was bought here in Atlanta and stayed here. Most of the hands it’s passed though we’re ford parts guys and they collected almost all the NOS parts it needed over the years when you could still get them. The motor was just gone though and the interior which
Just needed a few things. Will post more pictures next time I get down to the shop. So close now a week solid of working on it and it will be done.

Looks like a great project and very clean Mustang for its age.

Definitely harder to find any 65-68 Fastback in good condition and for a decent price now. I'm referring to Fastbacks that aren't a shell, but good, semi-restored drivers. The market on these has made it almost impossible to pick up a "hobby" Fastback for fair pricing - because most holders of them are asking ridiculous prices, even for badly rotted shells - no drivetrains and missing interior components. I've seen some listed in the mid $30k-$40k range that when looking it over from top to bottom, would still need another $15k of resto work and that's excluding knowing the hidden damages or work needed.

I've been watching a T-Code 66 that is restored as a Shelby Tribute. Not done 100% correct, although superb nut-to-bolt restoration - bidding surpassed $50k and reserve still was not met. I've seen another for sale on the West Coast that again was a T-Code restored as another Shelby Tribute, where that Retail Shop was asking in excess of $150k. The problem I have is - regardless of how it looks and how it was restored to represent XYZ platform - in the end, it's still a T-Coded VIN, period. I (me personally) can't justify spending in excess of $50k+ for a T-Coded Fastback, one that never was a V8 from the assembly line.

Don't get me wrong, I can understand the "it's still a Fastback" ideology, and that the restoration is excellent from nut to bolt, but it's just getting over the fact it was never a true V8. And.... the next person like me, it would be just as difficult to sell to at a price point that is equivalent to a true D, C, A or in some instances K code (65-66 specifically) at the same level of restoration.

Being in this hobby for well over 30yrs now and being a member of VMF, SAAC, and multiple other Mustang sites for years, plus having owned many Mustangs myself, I know what to look for and can gauge the cost assessment when looking at a Classic, but some folks get stung... and stung bad when not being in "the know".

Kudos to you for holding onto that 67 and taking the time restoring it. Looks great, and ENJOY IT, DRIVE IT once it's ready to be roadworthy again... these cars deserve to be driven.

I grew up in San Jose where these cars were built. In '77 I was shopping for my first car and an S-code fastback was my target. There was no shortage of these cars around and I was trying to pick between a '67 GTA fastback with every option (including both consoles and tilt wheel) and a 4sp 390 fastback that was a little over used. I wised up and bought something with less horsepower (a '72 Capri v6). I wrecked that car as I would have the 390. Someone else beat the 4sp car into the ground as I saw it a couple of years later with the telltale dimples in the rear fenders from hard abuse. I hope the fully loaded car survived as it would be one of the most valuable '67 Mustangs in the country at this point (excluding Shelbys). It was Raven Black with red interior. Quite the pimpmobile.
