Anyone experience this? Have a 2016 that just turned 4600 miles and on 2 occasions when temps where below 50 before car warmed up the 1st shift into 5th resulted in a grind. Just wondering.

It can happen when it gets cold. Usually it's 2nd gear that gets grumpy. Just shift slowly and smoothly into 5th until the trans warms.

Totally normal.

You might consider some BG synchromesh in your transmission.

How many manual transmissioned cars have you owned?

It's really not un-common. And where you live it doesn't get that cold. I've had to baby my transmission until it warms up properly, having lived in Michigan and now Virginia.

It's what happens when transmission fluid is cold and thick.

What I find is the MT-82 likes higher rpm shifts better than low rpm shifts.
I think it has something to do with heavier gear set and big syncros.
My MT-82 always shift kinda slappy grindy at lower rpm but at higher rpm, it's pretty smooth.

At 6,000 miles now and mine scratches fifth until warm. I have Amsoil in it. I slow down at shifting when cold and it works. I ain't worrying about it.

Atleast a feel better I'm not the only one, it's only happened two times, but then again we don't get too many cool morning unfortunately in Florida.

Second gear when cold, little touch until it warms. My Mazdaspped did the same thing too

The fluid used in the MT 82 is very thick to prevent gear noise, the tranny is very notchy when cold. I notice when the cylinder head temp gets close to 100 deg the tranny shifts very smoothly.
