When I start my 2015 GT 5.0 when stone cold, there is a noticeable engine knock for about 30 seconds until the oil starts flowing. Is this knock normal for these engines? I only have 10K miles on the car.

Noticeable is not normal.
You sure it's not a exhaust leak?

I had a focus do this. Turs out it was the Fram oil filter I was using. Read a long thread about oil filters. Switched to a Motorcraft one and it stopped. Never heard it again.
**Mine only did it for a few seconds though.

My understanding is the S on the Motorcraft filter number is for the silicone valve that keeps the oil from draining back. I had a V10 motor that had an engine knock at start up and I was told by a Ford tech that it was due to my Fram filter that did not have the silicone valve. The longer the motor sits the more the oil drains back without the valve. Besides my Mustang I have an Edge and an F150 and use Motorcraft filters in all of them with no hint of a start up knock. 30 seconds though is a long duration for a start up knock in your case.

JasonStang:

You're right. Today I started the car up in the garage with the windows down and the knocking noise seems to be coming from the center-to-rear of the car, maybe an exhaust leak? After about 20 seconds the noise goes away. What gives?

Have someone else start the car (cold) while you and maybe another friend listen for the noise outside the car. Be ready to move quick to pinpoint the noise. Have the hood up also. I would check for a quality oil filter and if you dont want to mess with it, let the dealership look at it. If its repeatable after a few minutes park by the service entrance and walk in, maybe look at a few cars then have a tech (preferably an older experienced one) come over and listen while you start it up. That has worked for me.

Just thought I'd give an update to this thread.

I took the car to the dealer as suggested. They heard the noise immediately and said that the internals of the resonator were falling apart and causing this noise. They have no idea what would have caused this. But they have ordered a new part and will be repaired under warranty. I will have it installed this week.

Sounds like a good time to stall an H pipe in its place!

I think my resonator is starting to do the same thing. Sometimes I can hear it for a short time on cold startups, and also after I really get on it for awhile and get the exhaust system really hot. I do have an H-pipe waiting to go on, so that should cure the issue.
