Hi All,

Mustang is 4 years old in October so going to get her 4th service done along with an mot. Car will have between 14 - 15k on it. I usually buy my own kit and go a independent Ford specialist who I trust. Was wondering if I needed anything other than the below:

Oil 5w20 * 8 litres
Oil Filter
Air filter (Was thinking of throwing a panel filter in like K and N) Opinions?
Cabin filter?

Last serviced Jan 2020 around 11k but wanted to bring the service in align with the MOT. I just had oil and filter done.

Anyone got any clarification between the minor and major services?

No comparison for you - but I went with a dry filter rather than a oiled type.

I picked AEM (over AFE) after reading through threads on here.

Turns out AEM is K&N’s ‘dry’ brand.

Some guys have had great (independent) Dyno results with the AEM - there’s a few threads on here with numbers / plots :like:

Only thing I would add after replying to a few facebook questions on similar subjects is that after 4 years if they have not already been done (i do mine every year no matter what ) spark plugs should be done.

I know they will be no where near their lifetime limit mileage wise, but age wise I would definitely be starting to get worried about plugs corroding into heads if they have not been touched at all for four years.

Like I say I have in the past had all the filters and all plugs and all oils done every year on every car I have ever had, my mustang will be no exception.

After 30 plus years in the motor industry working everywhere from dealerships to F1 and GT racing cars, I have come across way too many incidences of corrosion causing major damage.

Components have massive lifetimes, so its easy to think they will last years and years, which most likely they will, but left alone and not touched for many years is just disaster waiting to happen.

Corrosion between different materials happens, is very well known and documented, and happens way before any components lifetime has reached its limit (note bonnet corrosion issues on stangs) so before you need plugs drilling out and heads needing replacing as plugs shear off when trying to get them out, (seen it way way to often on a whole host of different manufacturers) far easier to just change them every year, or at the very least get them out check them, clean them up and put them back.

No real reason to go anywhere than OEM to be fair, unless you run a heavily tuned or boosted car.

All the Ford service schedules are on ETIS - You will need to register and put in your VIN. 4 year service includes spark plugs plus brake fluid change (every 2 years)

I thought the 4th service was the grand daddy of all services including coolant change, trans oil change, brake fluid change?
I recall that there was some discussion on whether that was in the 3 year service, but my 3 year service was just the basic one.

Greg’s WTF is ETIS? Link pls? Sounds like that holds the answer

You need to register if you want more than basic information.

My dealer does not change coolant or brake fluid to a schedule they say they test condition. I insisted on brake fluid change at 4 years & 17K miles. Plugs & pollen filter were changed.
