I just wish the engine was a "little" louder. Even with the top down, it's very subdued. I'll probably do a resonator delete at some point but I don't want it to be too loud. The primary thing I wanted in the 401A was the blind spott monitoring. The Shaker Pro was a welcome addition. I didn't realize the ambient lighting was part of it but it's a feature I really like on the car. The memory seating was something I was curious about but really don't need as I'm the only one who drives the car. It doesn't work quite like I thought it would as it moves the seat full aft when I shut the car down. That's not really necessary but does make it easier to get in and out of the car. Then I have to punch the button to bring the seat back forward before starting the car. I've got the manual transmission and can't fully depress the clutch with the seat all the way aft. One things for certain, I'm going to have to be very careful with the memory seating if I ever have anyone in the back seat. They'll get "very" uncomfortable as the seat comes back on them when I shut the car down! ;)
The res delete is a very subtle change in volume. Too subtle for me in fact, i ended up doing a full cat back.

I appreciate the feedback SVT-DADDY. I've done a lot of looking around on this subject and seen a bunch of comments on the H-pipe / resonator swap while maintaining the stock mufflers. I've gotten the full range of reports from ones like yours to whose who claim it's way louder. My concern is, I don't want too loud. Now what constitutes too loud? That's impossible to describe in print. We've got a number of S550's around here with modded exhausts. They don't sound bad to me at all but a number of them really are "way" louder than I would want. The more opinions I been getting lately, the more inclined I am to go ahead and do the swap. If it works out, great. If it's still too quiet, then I can look into changing the axle backs but either way, I'll go slow with it.

It sounds like your a lot like me. I wanted a little growl so it doesn't sound like a Prius but didnt want a "loud car". My definition of perfect is the 2018's.... nice growl but not loud.

To me the res delete sounds like an 2011 to 2014 car, which makes sense because that's basically what they have. You'll never see or hear a car and say "that car has a res delete" its that tame.

If I had to do it over again I would have left the resonator in place and done an axle back. Probably weld in some GT500 mufflers, those sound great on these cars.

In the end if you have a Mustang show or club in your area you will probably be able to get a listen to a bunch of different combo's which is really the way to go.

I have installed a modern billet clutch pedal extension on both of my S550's and it makes such a huge difference... allows you to move the seat back so you don't feel like the steering wheel is in your gut.
As far as the exhaust goes, if you can find guys in your area that have modded S550's you can get a feel for each that way.
I am totally sold on the corsa brand-- I had a full catback system (sport) on my 2016 GT and loved it. No drone or noise on the hwy and just enough sound to make it really engaging vs the stock setup. I have ordered the same system for my vert and waiting to get it installed. Was out on a drive today and really missed the spirited exhaust note.. it really is part of the total experience of owning and driving the 5.0 coyote

I fit the car very well. At 6'3", it's amazing to me that the seat will go far enough aft that I can no longer put the clutch all the way to the floor. In my experience, that's unusual. When I first test drove the car, I pulled the seat forward far enough that I could easily put the clutch to the floor with my knee just shy of being locked. Then I adjusted the steering wheel up and down until the wheel itself didn't block any of the gauges and extended it until I didn't feel like I was overly reaching to grab it. The end result is, the steering wheel is almost fully extended and it's nowhere near my gut. I love the driving position. It's been a while since I've had a car that affords me the range of adjustments all across the board that my Mustang does. Most cars I've owned, there was some aspect of the seating position that I had to compromise on but not with my Mustang. It's great!

As for the exhaust, I'll just keep it simple to begin with. I've looked at cat back systems. I'm sure they're great but they're almost always north of $1000 and that's just a bit more than I'm willing to spend right now. SVT-DADDY suggested keeping the resonator and looking at axle backs. I have to admit that's a road I hadn't considered and I'll look into it but cost is going to be a big factor too. There are certainly a LOT of options out there. Fortunately, I'm in no hurry! :)

I think my original post got "hijacked", but input is still interesting. Thanks to all who replied, especially those who pointed out the other features included in the 401a option. The BLIS is definitely good to know about.

Thought I would add some more background, thoughts and request for more inputs. I'd been looking at two 2015 GT Premium Verts. One was Competition Orange with 10K miles and did NOT have the 401a opt. I was having trouble warming up to this car as the interior had a strong chemical smell and feel. Not sure if it was just a case of an over zealous detail job or something was being covered up. It was a Ford Exec car, then sold to an individual who only kept the car for 1K miles, which also made me wonder. However, these were not issues for someone else, as the car sold.

The second car is Race Red with 21K miles. When I first saw this car it was listed at $28,988 Certified, both on the dealer web-site and Cars.com. Two days later I went to look at the car, and it was no longer Certified, and the price had increased $2K to $30,988. I was told the dealership had been sold (true), and the car had to be re-Certified because of that. I think it just got repriced because it was now the beginning of Spring. I took the car for a quick test drive anyway. That went fine, but when I got back, (thanks to several posts on this web-site) I checked to see if the rear windows completely closed after the top was put up. The passenger side rear window did Not close all the way. That got me to thinking if this car was originally Certified and went through a "172 point inspection", what was that really worth??? I also found out the car had a Borla exhaust, but not sure of the actual model.

All that being said, any thoughts on the Certified/not-Certified issue? What about the rear window fix? Borla Exhaust? Here's the link to the car.

Sorry about the hijacking.. things can get a little off subject but we all mean well.
To address your latest questions:
1. the first vehicle smell could very well have been a bad interior detail.. who knows what they might have used for cleaning. I know that brand new cars have something called "off gassing" which is the release of chemicals from the manufacturing process. I sat in a brand new 2018 GT with cloth seats and the smell was overwhelming.
2. The Ford Corporate vehicles are a great deal most of the time. Titled by Ford and maintained very well. The fact that someone bought it and sold 1k later might be the result of someone trying the convertible and then not liking it.
3. The ford certified status can be a good thing. I have heard others say that it is just an overblown inspection which adds to the price of the vehicle. I guess the only redeeming factor is that it extends your warranty another 12 months (4 year 48k) over the factory warranty. I actually purchased a ford corporate vehicle with the ford certification.. also included 24x7 roadside assistance. If you plan on keeping the car for a while it would not be bad to have, but not a must.
4. The rear window not rolling up all the way is a known issue well documented on this forum. Simpy requires some silicone lubrication along the window guide. Any dealership should be able to fix that without issue. Not sure if that would be caught during the inspection or not.
5. Used verts are often a great value.. you almost eliminate the depreciation hit and most of these cars are low miles and often only driven in nice weather. Find one that checks all the boxes spec wise and from a dealership you have confidence in.
6. almost forgot about the borla exhaust. There are 2 flavors of the borla.. the ford performance by borla and then the actual borla brand. Normally there are 3 levels of loud, "touring" (just higher than stock with a good rumble), sport (these will be significantly louder) and Atak (borla only brand- which is wake the neighbors loud). I had a borla sport on my 2016 coupe and it was too loud for my taste plus it droned on the hwy really bad at 2k rpm. For a convertible I would personally stick with the "touring" system if you were looking at a borla system.

Oops, you're absolutely right. Sorry about that. As Lorne34 said (parphrasing), we meant no ill intent.
