Just be aware you are also losing memory seats and BLIS (blind spot monitoring). It is unlisted on the window sticker but those options are apart of 401a on top of the shaker pro.

I saw those options but they're not really of interest to me. Don't the Recaros void the memory seat function? I've been fine without BLIS my whole driving life so I think I'll continue to be fine without it moving forward... I really just want the upgraded audio.

It pisses me off that Ford grouped it in a package with other mundane options.

Yes, I think so, for the radio upgrade & the memory seats. I know I can install my own better radio, but I don't want to bother with that. The memory seats for the ease of the wife driving it. A selling point for her.

Recaros lose power adjustment so you're basically paying for something you're not getting. IMO, unless you're going with a base package, the Recaros are a ripoff. Not criticizing anyone who bought them, they're great seats if you want more lateral support, more like criticizing Ford for their packaging which doesn't make sense with the Recaros.

Has anyone figured out the wattage of the factory amp for the 9 speaker stereo? I'm thinking I'm just going to go with the 9 speaker and upgrade it as I see fit. Probably will need a sub, which will mean I'll probably end up with a 5 channel amp anyway. But if there was any way the factory 9 speaker amp put out enough juice to satisfactorily power aftermarket speakers to a reasonable volume, I'd prefer not to run an amp wire to the back of the car.

what I find funny is you can get 401A with Recaros, but you are still charged for 100% of the 401A option, even though you lose the seat options.

You shouldn't be charged full price for the Premium package, either... since you lose the heated/cooled functionality.

Not sure about the US, but on the Canadian site one can order the Shaker Pro independently, too...


Erghh... actually not, it is listed, but clicking on it just add the whole 401A package to the config...

I'm all about if it Isn't OEM it doesn't deserve to be in my car.. I want the best OEM parts Ford has to offer... Even when the CD player on my SN95 died I just refused to replace simply because Aftermarket radios are gaudy .....

But I listen to a lot of dubstep and other stuff so the extra speakers was a must.

Also once you pop those panels they never go back the way they were from the factory. That's how rattles start

I used to agree with this, but after doing a couple proper installs, I don't think this is really the case in decently built cars anymore. If you replace all the push-pins and don't damage any panels during removal, which careful removal can mitigate, you can get away with not introducing any new rattles. I did a FULL stereo install on my 2012 Kia Sportage and I did it properly...and I didn't even use new push-pins - there are no rattles on any panel I touched, and it's a KIA, lol. Stereo install was done about 2-1/2 years ago.

The only thing that rattles is the panel where the rear mounted sub is during heavy bass, but I put a more powerful sub in there but didn't Dynamat enough, should have been more liberal with it.

Forgot to get back to this thread. I had a chance to sample the standard audio and upgraded Shaker system back to back last night.

I'm springing for the 401A just for the audio. The stock system is decent with some clear tones, it's just way too hollow in the low to mid range. Plus the audio output sounds like it's heavily biased toward the front end of the car (and I checked the fade/balance settings and adjusted the EQ as best as I could). The upgraded Shaker system creates a fuller sound. Plenty of bass although the low range doesn't feel as varied as I'd like it to be.

If you're the kind of person that listens to classic rock, country, or just NPR/talk show stuff, the standard system will be more than sufficient. If you listen to anything that incorporates bass, spring for the 401A.
