Has anyone use a 4 or 5 point harness without a harness bar? My budget isn't letting me pickup a bar just yet but I do want to use my harness for an up coming HPDE event. Ive seen that they can be attached to the rear seat bolt spot and Im curious if this is in fact doable.

thanks

You can run the Schroth without a harness or roll bar, but my understanding is that there is danger in a rollover that the roof can come down and injure you. A roll bar is a better option with a harness because the harness prevents you from moving out of the way if the roof collapses. The roll bar should help to prevent that from happening.

I use Schroth and I think their products are great, but I still think you should buy a roll bar as soon as you can to supplement the harness.

Thanks! I have Corbeau 5 point harness and not sure I can get the harness bar before that track day. A half cage is in my future as well, just not that soon...

You’ve got nothing to loop the harness around in the back, so… no.

The schroth belts have attachment hardware that works for the child restraint attachment bolts but the angle isnt’t great and I’d recommend against cobbling together a seat belt system with whatever you can find at the home depot. Get the harness bar, then mount the harness.

I've used the Schroth 4-point belts in a SHO and they work great. They use the rear seatbelt anchors for the shoulder straps. The rear angle is not optimum (cage mounted it best) but it's better than stock.

4-point belts are better than the OEM 3-point. 5 or 6-point belts are better but you need a seat with a hole in the cushion for the crotch straps and have to fabricate a strong mount under the seat.

The proper way to use any harness, especially a 4-point, is to connect the lap belts first and get them as low on your hips as possible and as snug as you can tolerate. Tightening the shoulder straps should be the last step.
