Hello all, its been awhile since Ive been on here! Ive been looking into purchasing a 2019+ 5.0 and immediately want to add Whipple`s Stage 2 kit when I take delivery! However, I am curious as to what the bottom end strength of this engine is and any other week points I may run into such as the trans etc. Ive heard of guys running tons of power through the stock engine, and trans. Thoughts?

The engine is plenty strong enough for a whipple. Around 850 is safe. Pushing past that is a waiting game. Some have gone way past without troubles and some have failed before then. I would change out Oil Pump Gears and the Crank Sprocket when putting on the whipple as well.

7th gear likes to slip once you start to get around 850+whp as well. Mcloed just released their upgrade for the 10r80. So I'm sure with that you'll be plenty safe. Just make sure you've got a good enough fuel system as well.

I was just reading on diyford.com that the crankshaft can do 1,500 horsepower easy.

What did Mcleod release for the 10r80? I am curious

Just researched their new release. Good for them. I would personally wait for Circle D to release an aftermarket torque converter and be done.

One or two folks scream doom and gloom at anything over stock power levels and talk about "hordes" or 5.0's that have failed even stock. However, said folks have not produced any specifics about what broke at what power level under what circumstances.

I believe the Gen1 weak point was the rods (~650 rwhp?), which were upgraded in Gen2. By and large, folks agreed the Gen2 block was the weak point and it let go around 850 rwhp. The Gen3 got a different block casting with obvious extra support in the piston load zone. Gen3 also got a fluid damper that should help the CS and OPG's live as well. So what is the limit? I wish I knew. The only broken boosted one posted on this forum made over 1000 rwhp on a Mustang dyno before failing a wrist pin. If there are more, I would love to know more about them.

Don’t venture into the issue section there are thousands of 3rd gen 5.0s that have blown up already!
Just read the 2018s, not sure about the 2019s are having rattling/cylinder issues and quite a few guys have had engine replacements. Is the rattling fixed in the 19s? This has me concerned...

Right. Like how many legit have proved their engine was bad. Not getting a new short block, but the actual proof like pictures of the piston scoring or other issue. 3 people on here maybe? 2? Once that thread went up all of a sudden everyone went to their garage, got out their phone, put it on record under the car, and heard what they thought was one click or tap and then went on YouTube or here (or both) and proclaimed they had the “death rattle” and demanded they needed an entire new long block and Ford “dropped the ball” on the 18 coyote engine LOL

You are very correct in how the internet mob mentality can easily get a foothold into situations like this. I know there's lots of videos now on YouTube with the tick issue for 2018's, specifically. Whether or not it's absolute proof of an inevitable catastrophic engine failure, still remains to be seen. In my case, I have the tick, but nothing in my filters or drain pan to indicate a serious engine failure is imminent. I took mine in, they did some diagnostics, and all was good. So, it freed me up to try a few things here and there to subdue the noise a little.

As far as how many have the tick... I think comparatively, the 2018's have an awful lot of cars with the tick. The 2015-2017 seemed to be on occasion, whereas the new 2018-19's seem to be very, very common. I only say this, because when the dealer checked out my car, they went out and warmed up several other 2018's GT's they had on the lot at the time. About half of them had the tick while warming up. So, after talking to FoMoCo, they noted that the ticking noise was common and considered normal in my diagnosis. Whether or not that is a load of hooey, and will lead to engine failure...only time will tell.

Didn't know about the fluid damper for the opgs. Good information thanks.

If the tick/rattle is what I think it is I come from the High performance Duramax world, truck has dynoed over 1100hp. Being a diesel we have had direct injection though it is at much much higher pressures. We have what is known as injector clatter/rattle where you can actually hear the injector solenoids resonating at certain rpm and to me this "rattling" sounds almost exactly like that. On a diesel if you are running high Pulse width and lots of duration which is essentially causing the injectors to really "work" you can hear it like crazy. One thing to note is if people have removed the huge engine cover on the 5.0, it could be heard on the coyote engine a bit more as you don't have something to really absorb the sound. However this is just my theory I could be completely wrong on the subject I was listening to my buddies 5.0 which makes the same sound.
